Al Avila spent $15,875,000 on:

Wilson Ramos 2M
JaCoby JOnes 2.65M
Jose Urena 3.25M
Julio Tehran 3M
Nomar Mazara 1.75M
Wily Peralta 1.5M
Erasimo Ramirez 800K
Derek Holland 925K

He spent wisely on:

Grossman 5M
Schoop 4.5M

Harold Castro had 433 MLB PA before 2021 he had drawn 14 walks..
10BB in 141 PA in 2021..still sucks but..interesting..the 3-51 slump and defense like he has on an oven mitt..not so good.
Willi Castro..the master of the error on a guaranteed out.

Last night, the Detroit Tigers' Akil Baddoo was the leadoff hitter. Is the move more about his improving skills, Robbie Grossman not feeling well or that it is widely believed that Grossman will be traded and thus the need to see now how Baddoo can handle that #1 spot?

IMO the only head scratcher is Urena. Jones was ARB eligible, so you either sign him or let him walk. The rest are so cheap it really doesn't matter. Hopefully, next off season they don't just go dumpster diving and look for some of the guys in the Schoop / Grossman class of free agents. Simmons would be a nice add at short.

Casey Mize will start Game 1 for Tigers on Saturday, followed by Wily Peralta in Game 2.

Astros-Tigers postponed Fri., DH Saturday.

Concern over Detroit Tigers' Daniel Norris who has been sent home for a non-Covid related illness with no return date mentioned. Let's hope it's nothing as Norris has suffered some health issues in the past.

Detroit Tigers' Akil Baddoo is proving that it's not all about talent but that mental fortitude and a desire to learn and improve are just as important.
His plate discipline has vastly improved. He's seeing more pitches than most of his teammates. His walk rate is up and his strikeouts are going down.
He's hitting off-speed pitches much better.
He's moved from the #8 slot to #5 and now #1. His manager, A. J. Hinch says that he's meeting challenges very well, not getting overwhelmed and stays strong mentally.

With speculation about the future of Detroit Tigers' Jose Urena, the team may have no choice but to keep pitching him. Boyd and Turnbull are out until mid-July, Julio Teheran's still not re-habbing and Mize, Manning and Skubal are facing innings limits.

Baddoo is awesome. After that little slide after the good start he's really come into his own. Now he's just owning it.

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic.
So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our passionate readers.

Today, we center the discussion on Detroit Tiger players considered to be trade candidates at the deadline.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

Multiple sources are reporting that 5 Tigers are realistic candidates to be traded before next month?s trading deadline.
They are:

Matthew Boyd

Michael Fulmer

Robbie Grossman

Jonathan Schoop

Spencer Turnbull

Boyd, Fulmer and Schoop are described as ?highly likely? to be traded while Grossman is seen as ?more than likely.?

Should the Tigers be trading these players? Boyd is the most expensive player after Miguel Cabrera and will be earning more next year. Grossman has 1 more year left on his contract. Schoop?s deal expires after this year. Turnbull is still young and under team control.

What do you think? Should all, some, or none of them go?

1. All of them if deals are good.

2. Only a couple if the deals are good.

3. Depends upon the player in question.

4. None of them should leave.

VOTE

I think Grossman and Turnbull should stay unless someone blows them away with an offer. I would like them to sign Schoop to an extension, but if they don't think they can, they should probably see what they can get for him.

Zach Short the call up as the 27th man for the doubleheader just hit a 2 run homer and the Tigers lead 3 - 1 after 5 innings.

None of those contracts really hurt the team. The 30m to our DH is what's keeping this team from spending.

A nice round of applause for Casey Mize as his day is likely done after a splitter for a strike out on pitch 101. 6 IP 1 ER 6 H 2 BB 5 K?s?..against a team scoring an absurd amount of runs the past month. Big time performance today!

Another* solid outing today by Casey Mize, who has a 2.77 ERA since May 1.
10 GS, 61.2 IP, 47 H, 16 BB, 51 K.

Jose Cisnero picks up the save with a 99 MPH fastball. #Tigers win!
Jose Cisneros since 5/13:
14G
18 IP
1 R
65 BF
8 H
4BB
18 SO
lets trade him..wait..lets NOT trade him.

Casey Mize is the first Tigers rookie with 11 consecutive starts with 3 ER or fewer since Dave Rozema in 1977.

His 10 quality starts leads all rookies.

He allowed 1 ER in 13 IP vs the Astros this season, baseball?s best offense.
