Justin Verlander set to make first Grapefruit League start of season.
from Mlive

Also scheduled to pitch today for the Tigers: Adam Wilk, Joaquin Benoit, Collin Balester, David Pauley, Chris Bootcheck, Phil Coke.

Leyland sure has a lot of flexibility with this roster, didn't know that VMart was@ the game yesterday, when the Tigers bombed the Braves for NINE homers. Wind-aided or not, probably at least half would have been homers anyway. It must have been really, really tough for him to not be able to join in on the homer-hitting fun, but for this season anyway, the Tigers will be able to give more of their players a rest from playing the field, with the DH spot open, or if one of them happens to be having a bad game defensively. Tigers will lose his enthusiasm, leadership and ability to keep the clubhouse loose, but looks like Prince will be able to help, along with Miggy in that regard.

VMart was hands down, one of the best, if not THE best FA acquisition, out of all of the higher profile FA signings prior to the '11 season, So far, it looks like lightning has indeed struck twice, with the Tigers signing Prince, although admittedly. he is being paid quite "well" in anticipation of Fielder being just that.

From all the Tigers in game and post game stories, most all those homeruns would have been gone without the wind blowing out.
Yeah, every story has him really really missing be able to play. He was/is more down about having the second knee surgery due first week of April.
Every one of my friends up here, all said that the sox should have done more to keep Victor with them. they loved him, and still root for him with the Tigers.
Getting ahead f things for 2012...to 2013, and the flexibility with the DH and Leyland likes, you have to think that V-Mart would be at DH 85-90% of all games, which means Cabrera and Fielder might have 5 to 10 tops, and then what with other players. Guess it will be a good problem to have,

Not sure, b/c I haven't reviewed their contracts, but next year in '13, the Tigers will have to make some big decisions on certain players, likely based partly on their performance this season, and if some are going to be worth it, or especially if they are going to be affordable to resign, if not extend.

Unfortunately, due to the club now having 3 players making 20M+ annually, some of them may have to go, by trade, release, or FA, simply to reduce team payroll. Amongst them are (I think) Valverde, Peralta, VMart, Young, and perhaps Porcello, Rick possibly due to the amount of RH SPs that the Tigers have waiting in the "wings" for their chance in the bigs. I really do NOT want to see Victor traded, but due to his knee injury, perhaps the Tigers will have/need to retain him, b/c other teams could be a bit reticent to trade for him, until he plays for at least part of the '13 season.

Same goes for Jhonny and Jose, but again it depends mainly upon their performances this season, and I am certainly not expecting Valverde to repeat perfection again this season, but he will likely be much better than 90% in save situations. Jhonny may well regress somewhat @ the plate, but it is also his defense, that will likely play a big part on how long he remains a Tiger.

If Miguel handles 3rd I hope we keep Vmart for one year of DH. But I'm not sure we know what to expect from pizza guy. He might want to spend 180m.

Verlander cruises through the first. Groundout, infield fly to Cabrera and a strikeout on a full count.

Verlander stops on way back to dugout for talk with home-plate ump Jerry Layne. It would appear he's back in regular-season mode.

iirc this ump squeezed JV last year.

What are you talking about. I have been doing Tigers game threads for several years before at espn and here since last August.
You should know that.

Inge flashes some leather and orchestrates a no-look double play.
Tigers strand Rasmus at 3B. Headed to the bottom of the second.

Delmon Young settles for a nice double.
Ryan Raburn puts the Tigers on the board with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Tigers lead 1-0.
Verlander's day is done after two scoreless innings on one hit with a strikeout. Adam Wilk enters to pitch 3rd.

Couple of fly outs, a weak single up the middle and weak fly out to Jackdon. Solid appearance by Adam Wilk.

Tigers hold a 1-0 lead after three innings here in Lakeland.

Delmon Young flashes some leather in LF. Nice leaping grab near the wall.

Wilk strands Rasmus. Headed to the bottom of the fourth. Still 1-0 Tigers.

Tigers aren't making any secret of fact they don't like speed-guns at Joker Marchant Stadium -- except for their own staffers.
Two games, no mph.

Kudos to Joaquin Benoit for just trapping a Jays runner at second base, perfectly, on a comebacker and beginning a 1-5-4-1-6 highlight ...
Our first case of pickle this spring. Benoit, Castellanos & Inge finally throw out runner between 2nd & 3rd.
