Tigers SRD Podcast: Episode 391: The wonders of the Tigers bullpen. Almost 2 Hours.

Nic Mishler, the head coach at Des Monies CC stops by to talk about Detroit Tigers 2021 draft picks Austin Murr and Tanner Kohlhepp, pitch design, and the Fetter effect.

Chris, Rogelio, and Yoooper recap the Boston series and the possibility that the Tigers could slide into second place this weekend.

The ugly side of how minor league players are treated was written about in the Athletic.

What recently traded player is making fans pay for doubting him?

If you wonder if Hinch and Fetter are paying attention to the performance of prospects..why yes..yes they are..I bet no other team inMLB has a GM who works for the manager.

Hinch discussed Wentz progress yesterday..which means he can see he has command issues..it also leads me to believe he gets condensed video breakouts on other players..with write ups from Hubbs Graham and managers..

DET has scored the most runs in MLB since the break 112..what I like better they have allowed only 77.

Manning gave up the 6 runs Tigers losing 6 - 0 in the 7th inning.

Cleveland 6 - Detroit 1: Typical night in Cleveland for the Tigers.
Matt Manning was all over the place, and the Tigers offense hit like they usually do against Cleveland pitching, which is to say not much.

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic.
So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our passionate readers.

Today, we center the discussion on what Chris Ilitch said about the Tigers? future plans for signing free agents.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

This week, Detroit Tigers? CEO Chris Ilitch was asked about the progress of the team, including the next steps.

He deviated somewhat from his normal stock responses that don?t set bars or qualifying markers. But he did say more about the potential for adding free agents in the off-season.

When asked if the Tigers would pursue free agents this winter, he said it ?could? happen but did not go as far to say that it ?would?. While he did address the subject much more fully than he has in the past, Chris did not make any promises or predict any bold moves.

Instead of speaking about his personal thoughts about the team, he framed the interview around Al Avila and the Front Office.

Here is a partial transcript of Ilitch?s statements:

?I think Al feels that we will continue to improve our ballclub in a high-impact way, and I fully support that and will support that.

?Al has been the architect of our vision, he and his staff have done all the hard work. Our fans have been incredibly patient through this process, and I think Al?s vision is very much aligned with our vision and with our fans? vision, which is we want not only a highly competitive team, but we want to be a playoff contender, and ultimately we want to compete for championships. We want to do it on a long-term, sustainable basis.

?To do that, I am very much supportive of the approach he and his team have taken, of building a young core of talent and now having the desire to bring in high-impact players to fill that out. So I?m very supportive of that.

?So the team knows what we need to have to be successful, and I know Al and his team are focused on making sure that we have that to achieve the success that we?re looking to achieve.?

So, Tiger fans, what are your thoughts about the interview? What do you think will happen this off-season?

After reading Chris Ilitch?s comments, I feel:

1.Excited

2. Optimistic

3. Guarded

4. Dubious

Velocity, spin -- two requirements for a first-round draft pick and potential marquee starter who isn't showing it with that sponge-cake repertoire Matt Manning is flashing tonight. Give him a chance to grow up.

LHenning

Until Matt Manning can miss bats..he's just not a viable major league starter..
Just a terrible CLE lineup..Manning 34 pitches in..ONE swing and miss..same problem he's had the past few starts..is it concerning..HELL YES..
Manning K% is the second lowest in MLB.

last EP pr @ratesandbarrels the best baseball writer in the business @enosarris references the how both Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal needed their arsenals tweaked and optimized..and the stone deaf idea of having Wilson Ramos catch them..maybe a better GM and Player development exec.

what it also tells you..if you wanna be short sighted about what year 2 of Matt Manning will look like..you have a short memory..they had to change a lot of things..plus.. velocity likely will return in 2022...

MGorosh

Reason for hope, Detroit Tiger fans. On MLB Radio today, a baseball exec gave a shout-out (and the credit) to A. J. Hinch and his coaches. He said that no team is overachieving more and visibly developing their youngsters this year than the Tigers.

Totally Tigers

More evidence that we are all getting old.
Texas 2018 5th rounder Jayce Easley, son of former MLBer Damion Easley, went yard today for his first Low-A homer.

Matt's still young and didn't pitch last year like many others. He could get better.

He's changing a lot of things this year. I'm confident he'll get much better once he figures it out.
