Silly rumor of the day re the Detroit Tigers - and probably started by a Detroit daily in search of readers? That Jeimer Candelario could be a trade chip - and that it might make sense. Someone is really reaching....

First of all, there is no clear heir apparent to take over third base this year - or even next year. And Candy is under team control through 2024. He's making only $2.85 mill this year, which is a bargain for that position.

He's one of the very few decent trades for Al Avila so why would Al risk that? Trading Jeimer would really throw shade on the legitimacy of the Tigers' rebuild and show the owner's hand in prioritizing money over winning. Best to file this "story" under "fiction."

Found the article. Reading the article, it seems like the article is just a hypothetical with regards some teams poking around.

Spencer Turnbull will have Tommy John surgery. Season over.
Spencer Turnbull will undergo Tommy John surgery, A.J. Hinch announced. Tests revealed chronic damage in his elbow. Typical timetable for return is 12-18 months.
Turnbull's stint on the IL started to look ominous as it grew longer and longer with no return date on the horizon. Now the Tigers have only 2 starting pitchers left from their Opening Day roster - Mize and Skubal.

Ugh...this team cannot catch a break.

Injuries were expected to increase in 2021 due to last year's on-off training and shortened play due to Covid. Yet, the Detroit Tigers have a significant number of players on the IL - 9 of them. Several will be out for the year, the latest being Spencer Turnbull.

Only 2 of the original 5 starting pitchers remain and the rotation is stretched thin between injuries and innings limits which will only get worse as the season gets longer. Regular bullpen days are now scheduled.

But the injuries are coming fast and furious and one has to wonder if A. J. Hinch is going to have discussions this off-season with the Front Office about the need to improve training and conditioning. Too many injuries set back rebuilds and player development.

3 best position players on the team are Grossman, Baddoo, & Schoop. Free agent add, rule 5 add, free agent signing (re-signed)

She said Candy is having a better year, which is not true, he was better last year.

She said Miggy is better this year after struggling his past 3. Not true, he has been worse this year in every statistical category.

Haase has been good and has improved...but is it coaching or finally getting a chance? This is basically the first time he has even played at the ML level (about total MLB 50 AB prior to this season)

Then she praises Derek Hill for showing his elite defensive skills after sitting in Toledo for years...he has had 23 ABs lady...settle down...oh, and he has only been in Toledo for one year...this year.

Then she says Mize struggled mightily last year...no shit. He was drafted, had one season in the Minors and was thrown to the wolves after sitting in Toledo not playing any games. Skubal in a similar situation. These guys are just developing.

Wily Peralta has been a godsend...signed by AA

this might be the biggest piece of garbage article I have read. Giving all the credit to AJ and the coaching and most of what she is saying isn't true or accurate.
