20 years old Riley Greene is going to be a great Tiger.

The growth of Spencer Torkelson hitting balls like scuds to the opposite field..is a revelation..he may..be ready to start the year at 1B..and kudos to the youngster for expanding his game..a ton of hitting aptitude..

Next on the Tigers agenda..
Hinch, Sartori, and Garko have to identify then convince with top line salaries and the opportunity to craft a best in baseball culture a huge group of player development on field and off field coaches and analysts..

infer today..remember this..AJ Prellar is damn smart..spent a ton..made great trades..developed a bunch of prospects..he's far better at this than Avila..what he doesn't have is Hinch..

Matthew Boyd on his future with the Tigers: "If that path does change, then I'll attack that. I'll be who I am for somebody else and do everything I can to help them win a championship. But right now, it's the Tigers. It's just stuff that's not up to me."
Let me translate this into reality.. the Tigers are not paying Matthew Boyd more than 1M in 2022.. or they may just say thanks for the memories.. either way.. DET just freed up 5M in payroll.

MGorosh

Boyd is already the most expensive player after Miggy. And he's a free agent after next year anyway. Will the Tigers risk the salary on a player untested after surgery or will they non-tender him? $8 mill would do nicely in signing a desperately-needed free agent SS.

With Matthew Boyd having surgery, Tigers sound open to exploring a contract extension with RHP Wily Peralta, who?s set to become a free agent at season?s end. They were open to it before, but it takes on some more urgency now.

No surprise really. Boyd is widely expected to make $7.5-$8 mill next year as the arbitration process essentially guarantees players a raise. Peralta is making $1.5 mill this year. He has the Tigers only winning record and has stats almost identical to Boyd's.

Totally Tigers

Tigers lead 3 - 1 bottom of the 8th inning,

Miggy with a 2 run double,

Miguel Cabrera's 2-run double in the 6th inning is the 596th of his career, tying him with Luis Gonzalez for 18th in MLB history.

Cabrera's four-RBI night helps Tigers even series against the Royals.

With his three hits, Cabrera stands 17 shy of 3,000 and he's just four doubles from 600. He would become only the third player ever to achieve 500 homers, 3,000 hits and 600 doubles, joining Hank Aaron and Albert Pujols in that exclusive club.

Mlive

The Tigers (75-79) must win six of their final eight games to finish the season at .500. They have one more against the Royals (70-84) on Sunday.

The Tigers trailed 1-0 in the sixth when Jonathan Schoop and Robbie Grossman logged back-to-back singles. Miguel Cabrera blooped a two-out double down the right field line to score both runners. Jeimer Candelario followed with a louder, 382-foot double to the left-center field gap to score Cabrera.

It was Cabrera?s 596th double, tying Luis Gonzalez for 18th-most in MLB history.

Candelario?s double was his 42nd this year, best in all of baseball.

Tigers starter Tarik Skubal pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. He was aided by a brilliant catch by left fielder Akil Baddoo in the third inning to rob Hunter Dozier of a home run.

Tigers outfielder Victor Reyes left the game in the sixth inning with right groin tightness. He was replaced by Daz Cameron.
Reyes has been one of the Tigers? hottest hitters, batting .340 (17-for-50) in September.
