September 24, marks the 47th anniversary of Al Kaline?s 3,000th hit.
?Mr. Tiger? doubled off the first pitch from Baltimore?s Dave McNally in the fourth inning of a 5-4 road loss to the Orioles on Sept. 24, 1974.

?Anytime you win a batting championship, there?s a lot of luck that goes with it,? Kaline said, a couple months shy of his 40th birthday, told the media after the game.
?But when you get 3,000 hits, I don?t think anybody can say you were just lucky. You?ve had to withstand the pressure of all those seasons and too many injuries and everything. To me that really means something.? (

In semi-related news, Miguel Cabrera?s quest for No. 3,000 continues; the 38-year-old is at 2,979 hits, 21 away.

There is still no word on the Detroit Tigers' Matthew Boyd. Over a week later, he is scheduled to get a second opinion on his arm. Overall, the delay and need to see another doctor is not encouraging.

Combine this with Boyd's expected arbitration salary raise to app. $8 mill, it will be surprising if the Tigers offer him a contract for 2022. This means the Tigers would be down 2 SPS (w/ Turnbull) for 2022.

It is somewhat likely that the Tigers would have Mize, Manning and Skubal as anchors. Maybe Alexander. But they also need veteran pitchers. Will they re-sign Peralta?

With Jake Rogers out next year, the Detroit Tigers may just have to go in-house for his replacement. There is a dearth of available catchers w/all of the expected candidates being in their mid-30's and/or be tied to millions left on their contracts. Two of them are former Tigers.
Currently, it appears that Dustin Garneau and Eric Haase will be battling it out for the #1 catching slot. Garneau is currently impressing the team and appears to know that the job is his to lose.

Totally Tigers

Game is tied at 3 each going to the top of the 8th inning,

Miguel Cabrera's RBI in the 3rd inning is the 1,800th of his career, becoming the 20th player since 1920 (when RBI became an official stat) to reach that milestone.

Tigers 4 - White Sox 3: The mojo is off the charts right now.
This shouldn?t have been a winnable game, but the Fighting Hinches do as they please.

I really wanted to watch this but fell a sleep. Glad they won this one. 1800 RBI for Miggy is huge and a comeback, nice.
