A change at the top of the Tigers batting order, where Cameron Maybin and Ian Kinsler swap spots in front of the run production middle of the lineup. Kinsler will bat second for the first time this season.
?Change his luck, maybe,? manager Brad Ausmus said. ?He?s been barreling the ball up, sometimes hitting it right at people. There?s no mathematical formula behind [the swap].?
Meanwhile, at the other end, Erick Aybar starts in place of Jose Iglesias against James Shields, while Casey McGehee slides down to eighth in the order.
On the White Sox side, with Dioner Navarro now back in Toronto, Alex Avila gets the start behind the plate against lefty Matt Boyd. It?s Avila?s second start in three games since his return from the disabled list over the weekend.

Avila is batting against a lefty??? Well I think we know how that will go. Now with that said, he will have a great game.

Small sample size, but Avila is 3 for 10 this year against lefties.

After losing two to the angels this series is a big series now. IMO they have to win TWO of 3, and need to sweep them to get back on tract to win the Division!. Really the last two loses were missed opportunities! BIG time!

I didn't have the tv on and saw on gameday the called strike three to JD was over a foot inside??
Did anyone see it live?

disregard what I posted here; I went back and looked, and Barksdale are as the best, Tim Welke was the worst (correct percent of strike calls). Senior moment

In a bit of research after Saturday's game, I came across an article that showed the range of correct strike calls, and gave examples of the best and worst umpires that year. Lance Barksdale was the worst.....

Then that answers my question in the previous post.

Then that answers my question in the previous post.

I went back and looked again, and I reversed this in my memory. Barksdale had the best percentage last year :(. Tim Welke was the worst; the range would vary from about 5 to 10 incorrect calls a game.

Well still that pitch to end JD's at bat was way inside.
I speculate if that was a message from the umpire's fraternity from the game he and the others got tossed. Things that make you go hmmm....

Agreed; given what JD said, I hope MLB sent Everitt a message as well. JD's ejection wasn't justifiable.

Kinsler hitting the ball on the nose lines to center, Aybar to third,

Miggy with a sac fly to left, Aybar tags and scores,

Tigers lead 1 - 0,

Miggy needs 19 more RBI for 100.

And another ball called a strike on Victor; I hope someone fouls a fastball or 2 off of Barksdale's mask, just for karma's sake.

Throw strikes early in the count!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With his RBI in the 3rd inning, Miggy has tied Alan Trammell for 10th in Tigers history with 1,003 RBI. Next on the list is Bobby Veach with 1,044.

Apparently Shields is seeing things that isn't there. Throws it to centerfield on the pick off attempt at 2nd base...to no one.
