Detroit Lions rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy underwent a successful surgical procedure Thursday to repair a core muscle injury.

The team confirmed, releasing the following statement:

"Kyle Van Noy underwent a successful surgical procedure today due to a core muscle injury. We will continue to monitor Kyle's progress and provide updates when appropriate."

The Lions? second-round draft pick first noticed the injury in a light practice a day before the team?s third preseason game against Jacksonville.

He saw a specialist this week and the surgical procedure was recommended.

?He?s still got to see the doctors, and the doctors are going to tell him he?s going to a specialist to take a look at it,? head coach Jim Caldwell said earlier this week. ?We?ll make a determination at that point in time where he is.?

It?s too soon after the procedure to forecast how long Van Noy might be out.

As the Lions pare their roster down to 53 by Saturday?s 4 p.m. deadline, a decision will have to be made on whether they?ll look at it week-to-week or place him on injured reserve with the designation to return.

In the meantime, expect third-year linebacker Tahir Whitehead to fill the versatile SAM linebacker spot Van Noy was slated to play. Veteran Ashlee Palmer is likely to see some work there too.

?It?s really frustrating,? Van Noy said earlier this week. ?I?ve never been injured until I got here.?

Van Noy has also dealt with a thumb injury in training camp, though it didn?t force him to miss any time.

I'm not sure what he'll do but how can anyone say "he'll be fine" at this juncture."

Sucks losing him. Glad Whitehead is showing good things.

I get nervous when you hear injuries mentioned in such ambiguous terms, ie any hockey injury. I hope this isn't one of those things that lingers the entire season and he can't get onto the field for more than 3 games.

HAHAH. With the 3rd pick in the 2nd round, the Lions select Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Back to the year 2000..

(Millen era) Barrett Green, Raiola and Shaun Rogers, Kalimba Edwards, Boss Bailey, Teddy Lehman, Shaun Cody, Daniel Bullocks, Drew Stanton Ikaika Alama-Francis and Gerald Alexander, Jordon Dizon, (Start Mayhew era)Louis Delmas, No Pick (Traded up to draft Best), Titus Young and Mikel LeShoure, Ryan Broyes, Darius Slay, Kyle Van Noy.

I'll be right back, hooking up a hose to my truck's exhaust system...

Was really looking forward to see this kid shine. 2015 he'll be a beast.

Post xanders...slay and van noy. 2 guys with potential that were expected to be starters this year. Coincidence?...I think not. Get mayhew the fuck out of here.

Just another reason to bitch, man. Van Noy has never been injured ever, but now it's Mayhew's fault that he is? What about Xanders??? lol.

do you read the thread or just belligerently respond blindly? now go back and read what were talking about then you can apologize and stop being an ignorant fuck. I was responding to a post that listed all of our 2nd round picks over the last decade.....the only ones worth a shit are the 2 since xanders got here. How the fuck is that NOT mayhews fault?

Agreed, for some reason Hughes reminds me of a senile and grouchy 80 year old man.
