Victor Martinez

13 hits in last 43 ABs = .302 BAVG

Need to sit him ASAP and rest him.

V-Mart is back, the last week or so, he's been hitting the ball hard, without too much to show for it. last night he started finding the gaps.I think now that he has found his stroke/confidence he's gonna be the V-Mart that we've grown to enjoy.

5-12-13 game thread had some mourners and groaners today. And yea 0 for 5 will get some upset. But it has not been just one game. And lets see last 9 games 7 for 33 = .212. Same average he had 10 games ago when he went 0 for 4. and ended at .212. And the killer is a high of .221 for the season. At 132 AB's now. The # 5 spot is not getting it done.
So the question is how long do the Tigers go with V-Mart in the 5 spot?
BTW I do not see he back. He mite be trying, but back, not yet.

I just don't see Leyland even attempting to move him out of the spot. I don't even think it's anywhere on his radar. He likes the line up exactly the way it is.

Since April 12th (25 games)

Dirks 17-67 .254 BAVG .324 OBP

Martinez 24-98 .245 BAVG .290 OBP

Fielder 23-95 .242 BAVG .387 OBP

Jackson 24-105 .229 BAVG .289 OBP

Kelly 7-32 .219 BAVG .342 OBP

Avila 12-60 .200 BAVG .284 OBP

Santiago 2-13 .154 BAVG .214 OBP

So, since April 12th, Jackson has a lower BAVG and OBP than Martinez. Do we move him out of the leadoff position? Or at least until we know his hamstring is 150%?

At least Avila is consistant!

He is the consummate pro. He really is the leader on this team if you watch carefully. Him and Hunter really make this team look different, offensively, come post season. If you look back on this thread, it does shed some light on how good Leyland is at managing players.
