Warriors 105 Pistons 98 Final

Hung till the 4th then the better team woke up and went on a 18-2 run..

Our team needs a guy like Green.. A energy guy who can actually make a difference..

17of the rebounds are offensive..

AD has 20 points and 27 rebounds in the losing effort.. I was hoping he would get to thirty rips off the glass.. Seems like a neat game stat... I know rooting for stupid stats in a loss is wrong.. I prefer wins...

AD's career high in rebounds in a game tonight with 27.

His 11-25 shooting contributed to many of those 17 offensive rebounds. Missed a lot of bunnies.

Another loss. Now with the 7th worst record in the NBA!

Next 3 teams: Utah, Portland and Memphis. Should be 3 more losses.

I'm going to ask this because I'm totally curious. At this point yeah, the Pistons won't make the playoffs and they need to up their draft pick status.

But do people actually enjoy the losing? When this team was on a tear and was a half game out, the Palace was filling up, people were getting interested again. I was actually excited to watch the team. And now, we are back where we were in 2009, hoping for the team to tank.

This team is caught in purgatory. They are finishing well enough to not pick in the top 5, but not well enough to make the playoffs. Even when they were in the hunt for 7, 8, people got irritated and said, "LOSE, LOSE! Gotta get in the lottery!!"

The Pistons have a horrible draft history with picking in the top 10. Who is to say they'll get it right, even with SVG? I'm just sick and f'ing tired of this same cycle over and over again, and I'd rather see playoff basketball out of the 7 seed, get them swatted in 4 games, and at least give us something to hope for. This is painful. And are we going to be in the same spot next year?? Hey, we gotta build around the 6th pick we just had last season, keep losing!! May as well change the name to the Philadelphia 76ers. They've done the EXACT same thing everyone wants us to do. Pile top 5 picks. How's that worked out?

The only two players on the Pistons that the Pistons drafted that have proven to be worth a damn are Durmmond (9th pick) and Monroe (7th pick). The only other starter that has proven that has proven to be worthy of a starting job is Jennings (10th pick). The jury is still out on KCP (8th pick) and Jackson who was selected 24th but not by the Pistons. The rest of the roster is pretty much garbage. If you can't get quality free agents to sign here then the only way to build is through the draft or trades. The Pistons roster is garbage so they really don't have any trade chips. Bottom line...they need to get lucky in the draft!

But they don't know how to do that. They have just enough talent to not flatline, and they aren't good enough to get into the playoffs.

This season, I really, really wanted to see them crack the playoffs. Just because this fan base has been lifeless, and simply having a home playoff game would have done wonders. The Palace was just coming back into shape. It's going to be dead again. Just freaking sick of this cycle.

If winning was a viable option, I'd be all for it. When Jennings was on fire, and the team had rallied big time after Josh Smith was cut, I was all for the playoffs. I even had designs on the 6th or 7th seed with a legitimate chance to win the first round. Sustained winning is always preferred.

But that's not the case anymore. The season essentially ended the moment Jennings blew his achilles. Once winning isn't possible (we simply aren't good enough to get to the playoffs anymore), I readjust my expectations and goals. Looking at the players, the team was (perhaps unrealistically) reliant on Jennings creating shots and a dominant paint presence. Jennings was playing way over his head, I should mention, and normal regression suggested he would be coming down at some point anyway. But Jennings may never be the player he was again (history of returning from blown achilles is generally depressing).

So expectations are dropped, but what are the new goals. Well, what gets the team to sustained winning? We need a shot creator desperately, and half of our dominant frontcourt is likely gone. We have cap space, but little ability to entice free agents. The draft has two elite guards (both potential PGs) but both of whom are likely to be drafted in the top 4 picks. The draft has one elite shooting big man (to repair the hole of Monroe's departure), who is likely to be drafted in the top 5. So the logical goal should be to get a top 5 pick. The only way to do that is losing. That may not be fun, but to say you wish something else is to presume there is another option. I don't think that is the case.

Also, I don't see why you would say Detroit has been bad at drafting in the top 10. Darko was a huge miss, but still just one miss. Monroe has been a great pick. Drummond has been a great pick. Knight was a good pick, even if Detroit didn't have the patience to develop him. KCP isn't a good player, but he's hardly a bad pick specifically because the 2013 draft was a debacle throughout. Detroit's problem has rarely been drafting good players, it's been developing those players (which is more of a coaching issue).

Guess I should have clarified, I meant 1st round.

Mateen
Rodney White
Darko
Stuckey
Austin Daye

They've done better recently, but none of those guys that they have drafted outside of Drummond are franchise players. I like Monroe a lot, but I wouldn't call him a great pick. He's been very good. But his lack of athleticism and his horrid ability to finish at the rim is painful to watch. And I don't think he's coming back anyways.

I'm not holding SVG responsible for the Pistons previous shitty drafts. Until he starts making bad draft picks, I will continue to hope for at least one or two top ten picks to infuse some actual young talent.

We all prefer winning for sure...Hopefully won day again..

I still disagree that Detroit is bad at drafting (and again in this case you are referring to Joe D). You can't just throw out all the names of players we've picked and ask where the superstars are. That completely ignores the realities of the draft itself. Not all picks are created equal, and not all drafts are created equal. If you look at where each of the players we picked were actually drafted, the logical assessment is that Detroit got more than expected value out of those picks. Stuckey and Afflalo were two of the best picks after the top 10 (though we missed Marc Gasol like everyone else). 2008 the landed nobody, but also was dealing with late picks that rarely amount to anything anyway. 2009 we struck out on Daye (role player expectancy) but found huge value in Jerebko. 2010 Monroe was a great pick. 2011 Knight and Singler were both good picks (though again gave up on Knight too early). 2012 Drummond and Middleton were great picks (gave up on Middleton too early). 2013 pretty much the entire draft was garbage outside of a Giannis (who was never considered to be a top 10 pick) and a few role players. 2014 so far we've found at least a keeper in Dinwiddie in the second round.

Compare that kind of production, by pick number, to most any other team out there. Detroit has been good at drafting, they just didn't luck into any superstars.
