Birkett twitter says Washburn returning.

Great news......line was VASTLY improved last year and that was with 2 rookies and a FB at left tackle!

I liked our Oline schemes last year. Plus the talent was vastly improved. Glad to see that brought him back and I really hope they keep both of them.

I think I heard we were keeping both. Someone mentioned on another thread..

I know we are keeping Sr. But some oline guys were rumoured to be joining the staff.

Oh, okay. I'm not a fan of the wide nine so I prefer to keep the young, get rid of the old. Kind of like America..

Looks like both. On an aside as good as Waddle was last year for being and UDFA. I think we need an OT in the draft. I think LKP said it but slide Reiff to RT and Robinson or Matthews to LT and Stafford has time to go through his progressions. Means bumping back more pressing needs but those two are franchise tackles.

There is one problem I have with it, those progressions. Staff gets rid of the ball quickly, not because there are guys coming at him - he just likes to get rid of it quick. Maybe after his early injuries he makes an unconscious effort.

So, I think he has time to go through his progressions but just doesn't do it because he can't..He focuses on one guy too much..

Maybe that's just me..but I don't think so.

Yep and Waddle and Hilliard for great depth. I'd take either of them over Watkins if they dropped to 10. Stud LTs usually don't last. See the 2013 draft top 5.

And for those worried about future cap hell. Fairley(2015, maybe 2016 depending on team option) and Reiff(2016) are the ones we would most likely lose. Though Stafford new deal is more likely and we'll see on Calvin.

LT now, Waddle will be a restricted free agent only in 2016. Reiff could be expendable in 2016. Buys the Lions until 2017 to find a new RT or extend Waddle(lot of play depending on that).

just wondering why you're giving up on Waddle after his first year? it seems like we have much bigger actual needs (WR or CB) to use a luxury pick on a "stud" LT. also what makes you think that RR could thrive, let alone just even play to Waddle's level at RT (not saying he can't, just playing devils advocate)?

i'd say give the line, as it currently is, another year to prove that this wasn't just a one time thing... fill a much larger hole, and revisit (if needed) in '15.

A stud LT is never a luxury. You take BPA top ten and use the rest of the draft to fill needs. Waddle was serviceable but needed a lot of help from TEs chipping, both him and Reiff did. And Staff got the ball out quickly which may have lead to TOs. Waddle made hay in the run game and was ok to good at pass pro. And as LKP pointed out that is one position where you definitely want good depth. If Matthews is there only you take about 0.01 seconds to turn your card in. Oh and no one is giving up on Waddle by drafting possibly the best player in the draft.

And hell, if Waddle beats out Reiff at RT so be it. Rob Sims is a free agent after 2014. Reiff to LG? Maybe.

What's your preference if one of the stud tackles is there...and Watkins? I'd say Watkins.

I'd have to go Watkins too. If two players grade out similar you've got to give the push to need. Watkins, Robinson, Matthews all elite prospects.

Tackle. Doesn't matter who the WR is if the QB can't throw the ball, doesn't matter who the QB is if the line can't block. Passing game starts up front, Give a QB enough time he will look good, give a WR enough time he will get open.

our line gave staff more than enough time all year, so why did Staff still look like shit?
