NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Score Prediction Thread for background on the University of Washington

Even though this is a "National Championship Rematch" these teams have much less in common with that game than that lofty title suggests... both have new head coaches, new quarterbacks and a significant amount of new starters

Between the two, Michigan has more in common by a bit. Between the assistant coaches who stayed, and having returned most of the defense we have a little continuity.

This is our first road game of the year, and from the looks of the spread, the gambling public is expecting a close Michigan loss.

Sagarin is basically giving us our last chance to prove ourselves here, after that close-game-that-should-not-have-been-close for the Brown Jug last weekend. He still believes in us... hopefully for our sake we don't let him down.

About Our Opponent's Foot Ball Team:
Washington is 3-2 (1-1) and unranked. They lost a close home game to a decent (4-1) Wash St. team, and lost another close game @ Rutgers, when their last second FG attempt to tie it missed. They have wins over Weber St., EMU, and had an easy win vs. Northwestern. Sagarin rates their S.O.S. 83rd. Ours is now 12th.

Washington is coached by former Michigan QBC/Passing Coordinator, Jedd Fisch, most recently of Arizona. He did a good job there, and his coaching career is still on the rise. Fisch brought his OC with him, Brennan Carroll, who has coached at UW before. His DC is... Bill Belichick's son Steve, who apparently has not yet found a good barber in the Seattle area.

Their QB, Will Rogers, a Miss. St. transfer and Sr., has yet to throw a pick in 147 attempts, and has a 74.8% completion percentage. Yikes.

Also, former UM WR Giles Jackson is still on the roster. He's been around forever, it seems.

Stats Watch!

PED: ............................................55th ...........3rd
PEO: ...........................................121st ......10th
Rushing O: ................34th (194ypg)........61st (173ypg)

Penalties/Game: ...............25th (4.8) .......120th (8.6)

As we're almost halfway through the season, if some of these don't improve, they become really concerning. I don't expect us to be able to pass the ball efficiently at all, ever, this season, but we have to clear up the turnovers. And we can't fall apart on defense like that against Minnesota. Although, if you take away that bullshit hands-to-the-face call against Graham, Minnesota ends up with a lot less passing yards.

This being our first road game of the year, I expect us to struggle and am concerned about their passing game carving us up, if Wink doesn't get his head out of his ass and figure out how to mix up coverage schemes in the 2nd half.

Still, we're tougher than they are and have shown an ability to win games when we need to, so there's that. Need to win this one to keep momentum going. After this, we get a bye, but then have a trip to Champaign against an actually ranked opponent there.

So go ahead and make your predictions, and post some analysis if you so choose, but as always leave the woofing and barking for other threads!
