2. Q: Why can't the Wings just bring up Gustav Nyquist?

A: After waiving Jordin Tootoo and Patrick Eaves (both of whom went unclaimed and thus were assigned to Grand Rapids), the assumption amongst the fans was that Gustav Nyquist would finally be called up from the Griffins.

But in the words of ESPN's Lee Corso, "Not so fast, my friend."

While there is a roster spot for Nyquist, the cap space isn't there. Per CapGeek, the Wings currently have just over $560,000 in cap space. Nyquist has a cap hit of $950,000. Also, he can't be sent back down after playing two NHL games.

In order for the Wings to bring him up, a trade will have to be made. Mikael Samuelsson seems like the most logical option, but he has a no trade clause. If he is waived and goes unclaimed, that only clears $100,000 in space.

So in a nutshell, the Wings are stuck with what they have. And take this with a grain of salt, but don't be shocked if Nyquist demands a trade before the deadline if management is unsuccessful in making additional moves.

Seriously, Gustave is a shot in the arm for this team, he's a good fast skater, backchecks and defends, has a good shot, creative, just plays his ass off.

he's exactly what this team needs right now.

i know it sucks, and were going to continue to roll out Sammy and Cleary every game who are just collecting a check nowadays, both of these guys are cooked and no longer productive NHL players.
