Rodon P Season: 3-1, 3.75 era (1.59 whip), Never faced the Tigers
Tigers return home to begin a 10 game home stand after a 3-4 road trip. First up is a 4 game series with the White Sox. Tigers will not see Chris Sale in this series but will face 3 lefties. Tigers are just 18-18 at home. Sox are 13-25 on the road. Tigers are 33-11 when they score first; 4-24 when they don’t. Tigers are 11-6 against left handers and are 5-4 against the Sox this season.
“Big Pasta” has been great at home in 6 starts. He has a 4-1 record and 1.58 era. He is also 4-0 with a 1.50 era in day games. Righties are hitting .194 and lefties .273 this season. Simon is coming off of his worst outing of the season against the Yankees where he gave up 8 hits, 2 hr’s, 3 walks and 7 earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings. Simon has faced the Sox twice on the road this year. In those games he combined for 13 innings, 10 hits, 7 runs (4 earned for a 2.77 era), 2 hr’s, 6 walks and 9 k’s.
The 22 year old rookie left-hander Rodon is 0-1 with a 5.25 era in 4 road starts, but he is 2-0 with a 2.25 era in day games. Rodon has quality starts in 5 of his last 6 games. He has allowed a .306 opponents' average (38-for-124) and a .403 on-base percentage (including 21 walks) to right-handed batters, compared with a .215 average allowed to left-handed hitters.
Tiger batters have never faced Rodon. Miggy is hitting .489 with 14 rbi in his last 13 games but is hitting just .226 in 9 games against the Sox this season. That’s his 2nd worst average against an opponent this year (KC .217). He has batted .387 in his last 37 home matchups with Chicago and has a .462 average with five homers and 19 RBI in his last 18 overall contests at home. In his last five games, Romine has hit .316 (6 for 19) with two home runs, three doubles and three RBIs. He’s back on the bench today.
White Sox hitters are a combined 17 for 71 (.239) with 6 doubles and 2 home runs against Simon. They entered Wednesday with the fewest runs in the Majors, the 24th-highest ERA and the lowest mark in Defensive Runs Saved with minus-49, according to MLB Network research.
