I don't know but it pisses me the fuck off! Its harder to back into a spot than backing out of one.

They wouldn't make signs for it if it wasn't fucking annoying. The other day in my structure there was this GIANT Escalade that was not only backed into a spot but it was backed into one that said "compact cars only". That annoys the piss out of me for some reason.

bothers me too in a structure

but i still back into spots when parallel parking

The structure across from our building finally made it madatory for all the 6am-arriving construction dudes to park on the top two levels. All these huge Doolies backed in.

You all must drive Priuses (Spelling)

I don't drive a dually, but I do have a large crew cab truck. If it is 90 degree parking I almost always back it because I find it easier to get in and out. However I will agree with you that if you can't back straight, which many can't, don't back in at all.

I also back the explorer in as well, but it has a camera and I think its just cool!

If your talking about parking spots that are angled then backing in is just plain asinine!

I'm just poking fun at M&B09

Say, lostleader ...how do you feel about couches on porches?! ;)

When I was at Purdue our Fraternity had a couch on the porch and I loved it. I didn't have to enter the house to sleep off a hangover. I lived on the third floor and after drinking all night it was a long walk. However now that Im a little older I think I could go either way!

in re parallel parking
i see so many people front into spaces - i can't do that - always too far from the curb
even when i drove a smaller car

Always a reason for everything I do...or don't do.

School parking lot: I'll back in on occasion for two reasons:
1. I want to watch which moms pull in the lot so I know who I will visit with or schedule some mommy time with
2. I can press the issue getting out frontward...at the masses' mercy if I have to back out.

If I'm in my truck doing something I really should not be doing, I'll always place my self strategically in the back of a lot with a peripheral view of all entrances...usually involves backing in a space

Somewhat similar to damfran's number 2. If you know that it's going to be a cluster-f mob getting out of your parking spot when it's time to leave, backing in makes total sense.

Yes, I've done this at the Palace before - but originally, in the thread I made on the ESPN boards that I'm being made fun of for now, I was just talking about in the structure where people trying to back into spots causes more of a cluster-f in the morning than it helps in the afternoon.

What's even more annoying than backing in is when people pull through one empty spot into another...that they see you're about ready to pull in to. That usually leads to me running off a string of profanities that would get me arrested in some states. To sum it up: "Fuck you assholes that pull through into a parking spot then stare at me blankly when I'm halfway pulled into the spot".

Back on topic, can anyone explain to me why I see people backed in/pulled through in parking spaces at a grocery store? How in the hell are you supposed to put the groceries in your trunk? Those are the fuckers I never park next to because you know they're going to be resting the shopping cart on your fender while unloading.

the back in is only necessary if:

1) you are at a sporting event or something of the ilk that requires you to leave in a hurry.
2) parallel parking
3) unloading something so that the trunk is closer in proximity.

there is zero reason to do it any other time...the amount of time you just spent backing in you won't get back in return on the easier pull out.

I know this is a tad different but I sometimes back into my garage and I will remember this forever. Around 2005 when the new round of Batman movies were coming out By Christopher Nolan I was backing in to my garage regularly and my kids were 8 and 10 at the time.. We were in the car and i was backing in and my Daughter asked why I did that... I told her that what if this was batman's cave and I was batman and needed to get out really fast.. Now my daughter had not seen any of the movies but I had taken my young son and his friend (I know probably to young) and my son in the straightest face every said.. "Batman doesn't drive a silver van dad". We all cracked up and from then on whenever I back into the garage we refer to that type of parking as backing into the bat cave...

Idk but it's annoying it's like waiting in line at the gas station with the lotto players.

There are a handful of people that like to back into their driveways in my neighborhood. My overactive imagination has them keeping a "go-bag" by the door with weapons, money, a change of clothes and such in case they need to make a quick gettaway.
