19 pick in round one DETROIT RED WINGS

The Pick: Evgeny Svechnikov, LW, Cape Breton (QMJHL).

Details: Power winger with undeniable NHL tools. At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, he thrives at protecting the puck, can stickhandle through traffic and is very proficient with his zone entries. The latter is a good indicator of next-level potential. He?ll have to curb a propensity for individual play before he goes pro, so a 19-year-old season spent as an alpha dog in junior could do wonders for him like it did for compatriot Ivan Barbashev last season in Moncton.

Sure like his size.. probably needs to add a few pounds though..

The Wings are building a really impressive farm system these days. Mantha, Larkin, and now Svechnikov are all highly skilled forwards. I like that the team is finding more size as well (Mantha and Svech). I'm still not looking forward to the days where Pavel and Hank aren't superstars, but I like our chances of finding one or two more with these new kids.

Yeah, so long as the pounds don't slow him down. He is only 19 and will likely bulk up to 225 within 3 years depending on way he eats and focuses his exercise. Could get there sooner than 3 years, but I think rushing that sort of thing can be what causes a reduction in quickness.
