I was COMPLETELY wrong about that one. I really wanted the Leos to get him. Turns out plan A and plan B suck equally.

Should have only been one option for us last year. Zimmer. Wisenhunt and caldwell both had the experience at head coach and neither was all that thrilling. I think zimmer would have put something much better on the field as he is in minny right now.

I don't remember a single person, on this forum or anywhere else, clamoring for Zimmer.

I hope this helps seal the fate of caldwell - if TN can fire their HC within 2 years, then the Lions sure as shit can too. Granted Whiz went 3-20 with the team, but Id guess even as bad as they are, the Lions situation is worse....

For the next head coach, I dont know 'who' id rather take - a new coach with no HC experience, or a former HC who failed at his previous gig for one reason or another.

The Lions have had one of each since Mayhew took over, and both have failed.

When the Lions fired Shwartz, I thought they should hire someone who had coached once before, as typically you 'learn alot' that first time around, and become a better coach your second go. However, now it seems like there are a lot of 'successful' 1st time HC in the league, so who the hell knows what to do...

I just dont want Mayhew/Lewand in charge of picking that person

BellyCheat failed in Cleveland prior to getting NE gig.

Great coaches still need very talented players to win, something that escapes too many people.

Whomever they bring in will need to have great players added to the roster, which will likely require a minimum 2 solid drafts and 3 years to develop that talent. Just reminding everyone there will not be an instant winning team on the field, this reboot will once again take time.

Who's left to build around on this team once Staff and CJ are gone?

Ziggy, if he stays?
Slay maybe?
Who knows if Levy is going to be the same?
Will anyone on the O-line improve with experience?
Ebron?
Will Abdullah ever fix his fumbling issues?

Does anyone on this team jump out as a future all-pro caliber player?

There's a tremendous amount of question marks for the future, for any potential HC and GM. There are probably several decent-good players here, maybe even some of the younger guys we never see will emerge, but it's looking like it might take several years to rebuild this team. There are still a lot of older players on this team taking a lot of snaps. The Lions should have plenty of cap money to play around with in a few years, which should help.

I'm ready to talk about other GM options.

Old GM or an up and coming personnel guy?

The saddest part of all this is that the Dolphins fired their coach after a miserable start just three games into the season. The Titans fire their coach after a 1-6 start.

And with the decades of losing... this team, OUR team, has not fired it's coach when he's the one guy people expected to be fired on Monday.

It's amazing what a playoff appearance will buy a coach in Detroit.

It got our HC and QB big extensions. I'm actually a bit surprised Caldwell didn't get an extension after last year.
