On the prediction thread, I predicted that Obama would win California by a margin greater than the population of 20+ states.

Turns out Obama only took California by a margin greater than the population of only 14 states.

Wow, did he ever slide in Cali!!!

Oh well...can't be right on all of 'em....

Yeah, well, I guess I was wrong about the number of people in Vermont or Utah too.

Cali used to be a republican state. Well before they started campaigning against women and Latinos....they need to stop doing that.

The Republican party activists here, small in number though they may be, have become astonishingly socially conservative...

Gone are the days that social moderates like Pete Wilson and George Deukmajian could be nominated by the Republicans for a major statewide office.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was a fluke - he initially was elected not as a Republican nominee but in a non-partisan open runoff.

He did get nominated for a second term by the Republicans, really only because he was the incumbant.

I read an article that said a lot of the archetypal wealthy California conservatives from the 60 & 70s... like the families you saw in the movie "The Graduate" or the families that always sent their kids to USC, have all retired and moved to the tropics, or to Idaho to ski and live in the mountains.

the article showed how Idaho used to be a moderately blue, rural state; now it's packed with wealthy conservative transplants from SoCal.

ya that....and theres a fuckload of latinos here and atleast a couple dumb republicans a year say something about how they should all be deported and all their illigetimate children can stay....IF they go die in the military lol. You dont have to be a social moderate to understand how an entire people wouldnt like that.

I will go ahead and assume the women here would take more offense to republican remarks the likes of "if a woman a legitimately raped then the body knows and discards the fetus" or "there should be legislature that puts women in prison that kill their babies" or "my daughter had a child out of wedlock and kept the baby....thats the same thing as when a woman is raped". There were 9 republicans that ran for office and said something stupid about abortion....they all lost (Ryan kept his house postiion but lost VP).

So ya....when youre party abandons like 70% of the population of california....youre going to have a hard time winning that state. It doesnt matter how moderate or conservative you are.
