Report: Lions and Suh NOT close to a deal

You have no clue what offers they get. Free agents come here. Bush, Quin, Jones, Tulloch, Tate, Ihedigbo. Rob Sims choose to re-sign. Delmas did too and had offers. Houston as well with Patriots and Miami. The Lions are a good destination right now.

None of those players was a top FA though....mostly run of the mill players...well except for Jones...he is garbage.

Pretty good free agents. Bush, Quin, Tate, Tulloch, Sims are all good players.

Here is the list of awards (pro bowls & All Pro accomplishments) for the free agents you mentioned. Keep in mind that they give out pro bowl invites to a shit ton of players.

Bush All pro (punt returner) in 2008

That's it. Some of the players are decent or even slightly above average but nothing special.

Bush was the top back, Tate was the number 2 WR, Quin was the second best safety.

Bush had some very good seasons in Miami before Detroit running the ball. Quin was a good safety with Houston. Tate was the Seahawks leading WR winning a Super Bowl. Tulloch has been a top 5 ILB in the league 2 of the last 3 years here.

I like Tulloch but he was a former Gym Shorts player like I described above..Tate might have been Seattle's top receiver but this season with injured guys returning he'd be a 3 on that team now.

Tony, I'm pretty sure they were chasing him around like some skirt in an alley all year. That's what Mayhew basically said. He thought they were going to have a deal done like 4 or 5 times over. They weren't offering him some ridiculous offer, but I would bet it was a pretty good one. Suh just doesn't want to play here. Don't have to read between the lines to figure that out.

Ok, they were chasing him around. So what? Now, they have basically told him to beat it ....kind of. Brilliant move...

I'm not taking anything away from these guys...they are all decent starting players but NONE of them are top players at their position. Tulloch top 5 ILB...I really doubt that! He didn't make 2nd team all pro at ILB any of the past 3 seasons. I have a hard time thinking he is even in the top 15 ILBs in the league.

Super Bowl coaching? Caldwell got there because his QB basically coached the team himself. After he went down, the team was finished. Super Bowl coaches don't get fired after three seasons at the helm.

If he was a hot commodity, he would have been snatched up quickly. He wasn't. Lions waited around for Wisenhunt, he snubbed them, so they settled. Super bowl coaching is Mike Tomlin, Bill Bellicheck, Tom Coughlin, Jim Harbaugh. Those are super bowl coaches.

Grandy that's scary that we posted those names at basically the exact same time lol.

So Caldwell gets no love because of Manning? What a fn joke. lol. So Bellicheck is nothing without Brady then. Oh, but you guys mentioned BB as a God though. Can't have it both ways.

34 years between playoff wins and nothing since another 23 years. It might not matter to everyone but some players won't come here for that..I still remember when Deion Sanders said don't draft me Detroit..

Players aren't stupid..why would they come here when they can go to Seattle or SF or NE. The only players we get our players who get no other offers or players who might have played for our current coach..

You say this, but you get mad at Mayhew for not getting top notch players? I have been telling you gomers forever the same thing.

Nah, because when Brady went down in 2008, Matt Cassel (who is an above average QB at best) stepped right in and did just fine, because New England is such an established organization. When Manning went down, Caldwell couldn't do anything. You don't fire a "Super Bowl caliber" coach in three years.

He doesn't hold a candle compared to the names mentioned on this list.

Then stop crying when Mayhew doesn't get the players you want. He's done a decent job of bringing in some good players.

Lmfao. Ok.

That's all you got???!! Ok?

You know Caldwell doesn't compare to those coaches. Deep down, you know you can't convince yourself of that. Calling him a "Super Bowl" coach is a joke. If he was someone that was wanted by the NFL, he would have been swooped up yesterday. Instead, he was a settle job after Wisenhunt said no.

He's top five PFF both 2011 and 2013. Watch the tape on Tulloch. He's a very good player in run and coverage. Incredible tackler.

Caldwell is a good coach. Don't give 2 fucks if he had Manning or not. He's won 2 rings as well. One as HC, the other as an OC. And so what if the Lions wanted Wisenhunt? We got the better coach IMO. You have no idea that Caldwell wasn't a hot commodity. You're assuming again....something you do religiously on this board.

And Bellicheck was nothing before Brady. Get that straight.

Caldwell is a winner in Indy and in Baltimore. Fuck Wake Forest and recruiting. Lombardi is a winner in the Saints. Austin has been to three super bowls as DB coach. Zona 2009, Seahawks 2005 and Ravens 2012.

This coaching staff is full of winners with experience. Exactly what Detroit needs.

I thought we were allowed to voice our opinion on this board. I think MM has done a decent job getting free agents in here given the state of this organization. Of course they have mostly been very average players but $$ talks with guys like them. I honestly don't think you build a team through free agency though...you build a complete team through the draft.

And saying "we got the better coach," what do you call that?? That's an assumption dude. Wisenhunt took Arizona to the SB, how can you make that call without just guessing? But go ahead and insult me and others, that's what you do best. Act like a 2 year old on this board.

What was Tomlin? Coughlin? Harbaugh? Those are legitimate Super Bowl coaches.

Swartz was a part of winning teams as well but we all know how he turned out as a head coach. Just because some of those guys were on winning staffs doesn't mean they are going to be good with the Lions.
