Game 4: Lions @ Vikings Thread

That's where you and I fundamentally disagree with what happened on Sunday.

The defense made a bunch of plays to win this game. The offense did JUST enough to win, and it was mostly Abdullah. I have no idea how you can watch this game and think otherwise.

Stafford did not suck. He was under pressure with nobody open.

The long FG drive and setting up the TD was Stafford. Also the 2 point was Stafford. Anytime we moved the ball was Stafford mainly

Abdullah had a 29 yarder out of the 94.

We didnt move the ball. He had 209 yards passing lol. Our leading receiver had 2 catches for 40 yards. Stafford was Case Keenum except Case Keenum actually got his star WR involved. I already said the oline sucked, cooter sucked and the WRs sucked.....doesnt take away from the fact Stafford sucked as well. If you get blitzed the entire game and you cant beat it the entire game....its on you adn you deserve all the sacks and hurries you get.

Stafford didn't suck. He was sacked 6 times and under pressure on throws. He wasn't just misfiring or making bad decisions other than that fumble really and the Barr almost pick

Stafford made a lot of good plays too. He found the tight ends. He found TJ Jones

And he didn't get blitzed the entire game. Vikings got a lot of pressure from just 4.

No crap. When you pass it, you'll find players.

I legitimately don't know what that means. "He found the tight ends." "He found TJ Jones." Jay Cutler found Kenny Stills. Find any game with an QB and you can say, "He found that guy."

Stop saying stuff that doesn't mean anything.

He is making plays. Hughes only give the tight ends credit. Stafford is making those plays happen.

He needs to do more, plain and simple

He has and he will. Relax

And at some point, the defenses get much easier. We'll see what Carolina has.

Two great weeks and the two good weeks where they gave up 30 points. Stafford needs to drop 30 on them again.

I’m a little worried what’s going to happen when the turnover differential comes back down to reality. In recent years, even the best differentials eventually settle around +1/game by the end of the season (the Lions are currently at +9 overall, +2.25/game). There have been some tremendous turnover advantages so far to start the season, but history has shown that it’s not sustainable. It’s going to level off at some point, how the Lions handle it should give us an idea of how good they really are.

5 teams in 2016, 4 teams in 2015 and 4 teams in 2014 were +9 or better. The Lions should be one of those teams.

They not only force turnovers. They protect the ball really well. This has been like that since Cooter took over in 2015. The forcing turnovers is the new thing. The defense is very talented and it's not surprising they are finally forcing turnovers. Quin is the safety interceptoin leader since 2013 in the league. Big Play Slay. Killebrew and Wilson making plays. The crazy thing is Lawson, Hayden, Diggs don't have turnovers. The Lions are doing it all with Slay, safeties and LBs/Dline. Imagine when we get some from CB2 or nickel CB.

Also Chicago (10), Cle (10), Baltimore(9), Carolina(7) and the Bengals (8) are turnover prone this year. 6 more games against very turnover prone teams coming up out of the 12.

Vikings only had 1 in 3 games but 3 against Detroit. GB, Steelers, Saints Tampa protect the ball. However, Brees and Winston have been turnover prone in the past too.

Lions can sustain +9

Lions can sustain +9

I’m sure they can, but they won’t keep pace with the +2 or +3 games they’ve had so far. They’re off to a hot start and I can’t even call it luck, they’ve had legit takeaways, but be prepared for some 0 or negative turnover games. If they can win without a big turnover advantage, they’re the real deal.

The one game even turnovers was the lions biggest point differential win of the year. They got this

And 6 turnover prone teams

Listen.....they have done a good job forcing turnovers the first 1/4 of the year.....but some of them have not been forced at all.....and Stafford has been lucky avoiding a few INT's he should have.

Palmer sailed one....Ryan had two balls bounce off WR hands.....a RB blew out his knee without being touched.....those are fluke TO's. We made the plays.....but they weren't forced.

Every QB not named Brady or Rodgers is due one 3 INT game a year. Matts turn will come.

The good thing is this year the D is good enough to overcome a couple TO's. We have the potential to be very good.....but the offense has to contribute more to get to that 12-4 ish level.

Good pressure and positioning on the ryan picks. Tavon wilsons had a perfect tackle on cook to knock the ball out. Pressure on palmer. 10 of 11 forced

Killebrew also dropped a pick on Vikings td drive. Eli was strip sacked but the Giants recovered. We could have more. It's not luck

And the offense is scoring off turnovers. 28 points off turnovers all last year. 47 this year already

This team is doing well and can be even better on offense

This start of the Lions seems an awfully similar to the start the Vikings had last year. Lots of turnovers, playing not to lose on offense.

It's just not sustainable, we will need offense to show up.

Very similar. I hate this nutless play calling so much that despite winning games I still hate Caldwell and Cooter with a passion.

There's plenty of luck involved in some of the turnovers that the Lions got. I find it funny that the exact thing that happened with Matt Ryan's picks, you'd call "bad luck" if it was Stafford throwing them. Hit the WRs square in the hands and fell perfectly to a Lion.

It's 100 percent okay to get fortune with the turnovers. Often times, that's what happens. Look at one that MSU got last week against Iowa. They were about to score and the dude threw the ball and it just fell out of his hands. On the stat sheet, that's +1 for MSU, but no one will remember HOW, just that it happened.

I would call it a WR mistake and good positioning by the defense. I would not call it Staffords fault. It's bad luck for Stafford, but not bad luck for the Lions if the weapon is making the mistake and the D capitalizes with good position and making a play.
