Quandre Diggs recognized by NFL for his tackling technique in Week 1.

Quandre Diggs wins NFL’s inaugural ‘Way to Play’ award.
The Lions’ defensive back was recognized for his solid tackling form.

With its new rules attempting to cut down on brain injuries, the NFL is doing all it can to promote what they consider proper tackling form. That includes educational videos on what is and is not a foul and threatening helmet-first contact not only with fines and penalties, but possible ejection, as we saw with Colts defender Shamarko Thomas, who was thrown out of the game last weekend for this hit.

Another thing the league is doing is reinforcing and rewarding proper hitting technique. Thursday, the NFL announced on their network show “Good Morning Football” that Detroit Lions defensive back Quandre Diggs won the first ever “Way To Play” weekly award. Here’s how the league describes the award:

A distinguished panel of NFL Legends and coaches selects the player who most positively impacted the game through proper technique (i.e., tackling, blocking, footwork, discipline, vision).

Diggs won the award not for his phenomenal pick-six that kicked off Monday night’s contest with the Jets, but for a solid tackle he made on Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa. Here’s the segment from Thursday morning:

Diggs doesn’t just get a pat on the back for his performance, he’s also rewarded a $2,500 equipment grant to the youth football program of his own choosing.

Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast Episode #75: Week 2 49ers Preview. 54 minutes.

The Lions suffered an embarrassing 48-17 drubbing to rookie QB Sam Arnold and his New York Jets Monday Night. Erik and Joe wil try to sort out the landmines and look at ways the team can potentially not embarrass themselves at Levi?s Stadium in Santa Clara, California in a late afternoon Sunday matchup with the 49ers.

Ziggy Ansah back on the injury report.

OL Jamil Demby is the newest Lion.

Bradley Marquez and Zach Zenner are the latest Lions departures.

Joe and Erik break down Erik?s five takeaways from the loss to the Jets.

Quandre Diggs earned himself a gold star.

In a week of poor performances Kenny Golladay was this weeks player of the game.

Thoughts on the Lions snap counts.

Should this game sour us on the Lions this season?

The main embarrassment the Lions have been afflicted with nationally is that Jets defense claimed they knew the plays.

Does stealing signals matter?

Unsurprisingly the Lions are underdogs on Sunday.

What do we expect against the 49ers?

Jim Bob Cooter = scapegoat?

Erik and Joe dig into the mailbag and find questions concerning every position group on the roster and many of the fans fears for this team and the future.

Special teams ace Don Carey working out for the Lions.

Is it possible the Lions win the road opener for the third year in a row?
