Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Ex-Lions LB DeAndre Levy continuing to raise awareness, funds for sexual assault victims.

Kristen Jordan Shamus of the Detroit Free Press has a great article on former Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy and what he?s up to since his NFL career ended. Levy and his wife, Desir? Vincent Levy, are continuing the activism that made Levy such a beloved and polarizing character among fans.

The two commissioned a mural in Eastern Market depicting a strong visual regarding sexual assault victims and encouraging them, and the people in their lives, to speak out and listen to one another.

Levy has long been speaking out against sexual assault. Back in 2016, he raised $30,000 to test discarded rape kits in order to help victims find closure by bringing their assaulters to justice.

Today, he?s still fighting the same fight. The Levys have started a ?Crowdwise? funding site to help get more unopened rape kits tested. According to the site, they?ve already raised over $40,000. If you?re interested in donating, you can do so directly here, or you can purchase a shirt here. All proceeds will go to investigating the backlogged rape kits.

And if you?re wondering if you?ll ever see Levy in the NFL again, the answer is very clearly no.

?I?m retired. There is no reason to be playing football or supporting football right now,? Levy told the Free Press. ?I can think of more reasons not to support it than to actually support it.?
