Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Lions LB Jarrad Davis said he played running back the first time he played football. Got hit and wondered if he wanted to do this. Played RB until middle school when he started playing linebacker.
Loves playing LB and being able to hit.

LIONS BOLSTER SECONDARY WITH TEEZ TABOR.
The Lions nabbed an interception machine in Tabor, though Mel Kiper Jr. wonders if his lack of recovery speed will hurt him in the NFL.
The Lions took Teez Tabor, the tall cornerback from Florida, at No. 53.
He'll be reunited with his college teammate, Jarrad Davis, in Detroit. He has good height at 6-foot-1 and the athleticism to make plays on the ball. He could push Nevin Lawson for a starting spot immediately.
The Lions' pick of Teez Tabor is an interesting one. He's the ninth defensive back taken by Detroit since 2012 with only one -- Darius Slay -- having a definite starting spot with the Lions. Speed will be a concern with this pick.
Teez Tabor was hurt by a slow 40-yard dash, but few players in the country have been more productive over the last three years. He's the third Florida defensive back to go in Round 2 of the draft.

53. Lions — Florida CB Teez Tabor: B Tabor's tape is Round 1 but his speed is Round 3. Detroit split the difference, and with a burner on the other boundary like Darius Slay, it makes some sense. Teryl Austin is creative with his coverages and should be able to ensure Tabor's lack of speed isn't too often isolated. He's a tough, confident playmaker, like Slay, and the Lions desperately lacked game-changing plays from their lackluster defense too often last year.
ProFootballWeekly

53. Detroit Lions.
Teez Tabor, CB, Florida | Highlights
Why they did it: The Lions needed to upgrade their secondary and Tabor fits the size Detroit likes at 6-foot-1, 199 pounds. The No. 9 cornerback in this class, he can defend short routes, and he also can be a good run-stopper on the outside. Considering the Lions gave up an NFL-record completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks last year, he's a player that makes sense for Detroit.
Biggest question: His speed. His 4.62 40-yard dash is a concern, and how he's able to handle speedy downfield guys with height also might be a problem. How fast he will play will be a question since the Lions have Nevin Lawson and signed D.J. Hayden in the offseason.

As of now, four of the Lions picks this year came from New England: Nos. 96, 124, 215 and 250. Lions GM Bob Quinn worked with Bill Belichick in New England before being hired with the Lions.

The Lions finally looked to offense in the third round, taking receiver Kenny Golladay from Northern Illinois. The 6-foot-4 Golladay gives the Lions the big red zone receiver the franchise has craved. His 4.5-second 40-yard dash is good for his size and he had two 1,000-yard seasons at NIU. He'll give the Lions flexibility in three receiver sets with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones.

New Lions WR Kenny Golladay met with Robert Prince before his pro day and also came to the team's facility on a visit. At 6-4, he is "blessed" with his size. He said Prince talked to him about being the No. 3 receiver this season.

New Lions WR Kenny Golladay made his own highlight tape when trying to transfer from North Dakota after his sophomore year. Ended up at North Dakota because it was his only offer out of high school. Said he did not keep the highlight tape and "erased that" when he figured out he was going to Northern Illinois.

He only played two college seasons, but Kenny Golladay was awfully productive in the MAC. He finished with 160 catches, 2,285 yards and 18 touchdowns, while chipping in 206 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.
