Soria traded to Pittsburgh

Relief pitcher Jose Valdez will be promoted from Toledo prior to the game tomorrow to take Soria's place.

The fact that the Tigers have Iggy at shortstop shouldn't effect picking up good value at the same position. Can very easily flip it to a position of need later. You don't take a lesser player just because you're currently weak at the position, you take the best you can get and worry about 2016 roster in the offseason.

Excellent point. And don't forget that by retooling the farm system we get chips to trade with in future years.

Plus bat speed with lightning-quick wrist action; a lot of pre-pitch hand movement into load; has a tendency to land on front heel and lunge into stride; noticeably fights casting his hands at times; too many components to his swing hinders barrel control; struggles to adjust to average secondary pitches; won’t draw walks consistently until pitch recognition improves; always takes aggressive hacks; understands how to get off his backside, though it doesn’t always look pretty; makes crisp, loud contact; facet of his game with the most room for improvement.

Projection: Ceiling of an occasional All-Star and 30-30 candidate if all comes together; floor of a guy who possibly doesn’t make it to Double-A; very high risk.

MLB ETA: 2017

I read that Jones also played 2B in college, but was kinda pissed about being moved off of short since he saw it as his "natural position". I do like that he's super athletic, can play several positions, is a "bigger" guy at 6'2" and 202lbs. Hopefully he can put it all together and make an impact for us in the future. Right now, I'm thinking he's got the makings of a solid bench guy rather than a starter, but those are valuable too.

Hopefully Bull Durham and Dave Clark can work their magic on this kid. They've done a lot to help JD, Iggy, Gose, and a few others, so I'm optimistic.

Yeah, no kidding. Gose was what we all thought, bad. And just to add to that, Iggy was hitting well in Boston.

What magic did Gose get? The crap magic?

Gose is hitting 40pts higher than last year, 75pts higher OPS, and has 44 total bases more in 11 fewer games. He also has a 1.2 oWAR, which is higher than his career total until now. Shit on him all you want, but that's significant progress.

Got off to a crazy lucky start. Has been terrible since April. He's a platoon player.. he should be able to put up better numbers against RHP. He sucks. We wasted Devon Travis for this piece of crap. He doesn't have a hit since July 19th.

GOSE in a career nutshell:

PA 920 AVG .244 OBP .305 SLG .344 OPS .648

Here's another comparable career slash line of an MLB player "recently" who played for DET in CF. We were all glad he left.

PA 957 AVG .268 OBP .314 SLG .346 OPS .660

2015 Gose Away .211 BAVG .246 OBP .289 SLG .535 OPS

Last 152 Plate Appearances:

.191 BAVG .245 OBP .262 SLG .507 OPS

So, he and Rajai have stopped being used as leadoff hitters due to their inability to get on base since their unrealistic early starts.

Gose has since reverted to his career norms.

Since his first 4 games of the season:

.251 BAVG .301 OBP .335 SLG .636 OPS

And that is primarily against RHP. He doesn't start against LHP.

My guess would be Coles but we had many CF over the years that weren't very good.
