The "What Are You Listening To Now" Thread

Hmmm... I never thought of finding some Michigan fight songs on vinyl. I picked up a CD at MDen years ago, but a record would be cool.

It's actually not that expensive, Red, if you have a couple record stores nearby. most places that carry vinyl also carry used vinyl. Aren't there some around Raleigh-Durham?

I bought a sony turntable a couple years ago for about $100. it came with a UBS port so I could burn vinyl to digital formats on my laptop. If you have a stereo receiver and some speakers already, it's not much money.

most used records are cheap (under $5), even for decent stuff. There are a couple record stores in my neighborhood; every few Fridays, I take a detour after work and pick out something to listen to that night while I unwind. I think I spend maybe $10 a month.

the only problems are:
1.) storing all my records for easy access; currently in a big stack under the receiver.
2.) after you listen to a side you have to get up to flip it over!

I've seen Michigan Marching Band on vinyl on ebay.

They only made one album, Above. Easily one of my top 10 albums of all time. The period in which it came out and situations I listened to it definitely play a role in that, but that's music...I can't imagine anyone who enjoys Staley's voice not at least liking this album. As much as I love Alice In Chains, I actually think this more spaced out setting is a better fit for his voice.

Sweet! Re-issue of Above and possible live album are in the works, and they're recording new stuff with Mark Lanegan (who sang a couple songs on Above, and also is a part time member of the one and only Queens of the Stone age - among other groups). I don't think we'll here any new Staley vocals, but it sounds like he helped write the music for the unreleased tracks mentioned in the article...

OK, I remembered River of Deceit as soon as a heard the 1st few notes. The rest that I've listened to so far is good stuff.

Yeah, River of Deceit was on the radio a decent amount.

I Don't Know Anything sounds like it could have been pulled right from the self titled Alice In Chains cd. Probably because of that, it was an early favorite of mine. Wake Up, X-Ray Mind, and Lifeless Dead are probably the standouts for me now, but I really don't skip any songs on the whole cd.

I like some Skillet stuff too. Do you like them as artists on their own, or because they're Christian Rock?
