Verlander traded to Houston, TJ Surgery, Wins 2 WS, Wins 3rd Cy Young Now a Met

Top prospect Franklin Perez makes 2018 debut.
The Detroit Tigers have acquired several promising prospects over the last year as they rebuild. Sending Justin Verlander to the Astros netted three of the most interesting of those prospects in Daz Cameron, Jake Rogers, and Franklin Perez.

The trio were all slated to start the season with Double-A Erie, until Perez went down with an injury. Perez finally made his 2018 debut on Monday, working a pair of innings on a rehab assignment for Tigers GCL Affiliate East.

Facing Tigers West, Perez allowed one run on one hit, and struck out a pair. Ranked as the top prospect in the organization, the right-hander reached Double-A for the first time last year with Houston at the age of 19.

For his minor league career, the Venezuelan owns a 3.34 ERA, a strikeout rate of 9.5 K/9, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.6:1. The Tigers won?t rush Perez back, but expect him to head to Erie in the near future.

JV coming back down to earth.

Stats in June

6 starts, 37 1/3 innings, 4.34 era

Last 2 starts

11.67 IP 16 H 9 ER 3 BB 11 K 6.94 ERA 1.63 WHIP

Previous 4 starts

25.67 IP 19 H 7 ER 6 BB 32 K 2.45 ERA 0.97 WHIP

I am sure 2 starts are just an anomaly, but let's just see the end of July first.

Handful of thoughts on JV's recent outings.....

1) The National League hitters (in general) needed a little more than a half-season to figure-out Justin more.
2) He's hiding a nagging injury and trying to nurse it back to good health.
3) The long honeymoon with Kate continues and Justin's testosterone level is currently very low.
4) He's wearing too-tight of pants again.
5) Murderous Texas heat has caught-up to Justin.
6) Listened for too many hours, on how to attack hitters, from Brad Ausmus.

Signed

Houston is in the AL

Verlander's last two starts:

13 IP 7 H 2 ER 0 BB 16 SO 1.38 ERA 0.54 WHIP

it would be funny if JV and Max were the starters in the all-star game. It could happen.

They already said Verlander would not play in the All Star game if he started on Sunday, which he is scheduled to do.

I saw Verlander Astros T-shirt’s at meijer yesterday...seriously? I mean I loved JV but come on. Were there Denver Nuggets jerseys for sale around here when Chauncey billups got traded there?

CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander are the active MLB career strikeout leaders. They've combined for 5,497 strikeouts. They still need 217 to catch Nolan Ryan.
