20 worst contracts in Baseball history

Yup. Those were terrible deals. I remember Bobby B's deal and thought man he sure did make out great !!!

Mike Hampton

Albert Belle

Bobby Bonilla

Yep, Mike Hampton and Denny Nagel for the Rockies. Hampton owned the McGwire-led Cards on Opening Day for the Rox and for a pitcher, hit a ton of HRs, but that contract was deadly.

why did they put Fielder as a Texas Rangers contract? Mr. I deserves credit for that one.

I don't look at it as a Terrible deal for Bonilla. 1.2 per year won't break the Mets. Though for Bonilla it's a fantastic deal.. Majority of athletes go broke so it's a nice way to make sure you're getting income every year.

I read something a couple years go, something like 70+% of retired NFL players within' a few years go broke. High for MLB and NBA players as well (more than half).

There were so many awful contracts handed-out. Even Uncle Albert's remaining four seasons is atrocious, still being owed close to 115M. Pujols body looks totally shot this spring and we (in Detroit) may be looking at a sad-sad mirror-shot of Miggy, when Cabrera has four seasons remaining.

I think Cabrera turns it back around this year. Not back to his old self.....and not worth his contract.....but .285, 34, 105

It says that Rusney Castillo has spent a lot of his time lately at Pawtucket.

Pawtucket?

Aw, fuck it!

I think Miggy can still hit .320 but I don't see him hitting 30 home runs.

Miggy needs just 38 HRs to hit 500. Odds are 50-50 to me for him to achieve this in 2018. Without anything else to play for, I see him padding his career stats this year and maybe swinging for the fences a little bit more. Obviously, health will be a key factor. But if healthy, there is no reason not to think he will hit 30 or more HRs.

12 season with 140 or more games played. Only twice did he have less than 30 HRs and never under 25. And only twice did he hit under .300 and never under .290.

Minimum, if healthy, = .290 BAVG 25 HRs. RBIs are a team stat. So, depending on how they get on base in front of him, forecasting RBIs are little more arbitrary.

sounds like a great example for young players...putting individual goals above the team ;)

Miggy has purposely dropped almost 40lbs in the past 18 months or-so. He hasn't done that to hit more homers.

On the very first day of batting practice in Lakeland, Miggy was aiming / hitting to RF. Seems obvious he's looking to extend his career AMAP/ALAP, keeping his AVG/OBP high, knowing full-well he's headed towards being the full-time DH and not worried about his defense shortening his career.

If Miggy hits 30+ homers in 2018, it will have an adverse effect on what his new approach batting attack is aiming for..... that being high OBP/AVG and batting well, till he's 40 years-old.

It is. Who is he going to hit him in if he gets on? The team will do better if he takes more of a personal approach.

Miggy has always hit the opposite way. This is not new. 23 of his 54 HRs (42.6%%) the last 2 years have been to RF.

We already know that.
What he's doing this year and the later-half of last season was aiming the ball that way for singles / doubles.

We initially saw Prince aiming the bat in the same manner, to keep his average up, when his neck issue was bothering him, thus his power production cut. Tigers brass took notice and he was traded that offseason.

But no Dombrowski around anymore to deal Cabrera. Plus it would take much more than just eating 6M per year, to move Miggy somewhere else. Luckily, Miggy's problems are not as severe as what we saw with Prince Fielder.

Hang in there Miggy and perhaps your power swing from a few years ago will return..... eventually. However, no doctors will cure Miggy's back issues and his back problems will resurface....... then quiet down ..... then keep resurfacing over and over again.

Hard to move damaged goods and Victor is the same way with his knee. It's a part of his body that will never heal - not until the day arrives when knee replacement faces Victor after retirement.
