There are alot of 5th SP possibilities there. Nothing much at 3rd or 2nd. I really like DeJesus but Boesch gives as good production, less $.

Not a ton of interesting players on there. Ruling out current Tigers, Fielder and Pujols, the only ones that look appealing/realistic to me are: Yaddy Molina (if you could land him and have Avila play some 3B it might work although not ideal), Cano (not hitting the market), Reyes, Rollins, ARam, Beltran, Crisp, DeJesus, Buehrle, Capuano, Kuroda, Oswalt, Pineiro, Sabathia (if he hits the market), Wainwright, Wilson, Gonzalez, Papelbon, Rauch, Soriano.

For position players, I'd target Reyes and Crisp first. I really think Crisp could solve a lot of problems for us and he'll probably be pretty cheap. I'd love to see him and Reyes at the top of our order with Miggy batting a spot or two behind them. Could you imagine the RBI potential with the wheels those guys have?

I'd obviously love a legit lefty starter to replace Penny, but I think our rotation is solid as-is.

Another stud bullpen arm wouldn't be bad either, but maybe one of Zoom, Schlereth and Perry finally steps up.

If Molina hits the market, he'll prob resign w/the Cards, I think the Yankees will make a play for him. He's very good.

Reyes has only averaged 98 games the last three seasons.. In my opinion it is to big of a gamble to give out 20 million for a part time player... Crisp and Dejesus may be a option. Man we do need a lead-off hitter really bad and moving Jackson to the 9 whole would help this club... Man Miguel would have 130 Rbi's if we had a decent Lead-off hitter.

I think the Tigers plan on Turner being #5 next year.

Will you stop with the 98 game average argument, Bob? It's drastically skewed from one season of being injured and playing 36 games in '09. Once he became a full-time player in '05 he's played 161, 153, 160, 159, 36, 133 and 126 games/yr. Over seven seasons, he's averaged 133 games a year with the 36 game season included. Excluding that year, he's averaged 149/yr. He's far from a part-time player.

Since coming in the league in '03, he's been a +29.2 WAR player which was earned almost exclusively on offense. He's a beast.

Because of past practice, I get the feeling he will be the #5 too, unless something drastic in a negative ST for him changes that.

Off this list, idk, I was going to say No to a multi year to any player over 30. But there is DeJesus, if he would take a 1 or 2 with a team option, or a flyer on grady sizemore if the indians were to let him go after the injuries. I think both these players will bounce back next year after playing hurt or not near 100% in 2011
Kubel anyone, lefty bat not much OF defense??
chavez for a year as a lefty bat compliment to Inge vs. lefty pitcher? just for a year, that is if he doesn't retire like he mentioned at the end of the season.
Signing Jose Reyes adds to the lineup, his dynamics as a shortstop and his speed which would be as a leadoff hitter. and I have talked with Bob about this earlier today. Remember the Tigers had that contract with Magglio that gave the team the right to void the contract for a reoccuring injury to the same as before? Of course the downside would be what to do a content and productive Peralta at short. Reyes has played only 43 games at second, and Johnny never. and Peralta wasn't comfortable at 3rd.
At least, if we are to believe what Mr. ilitch said about adding 'substantial' to payroll, anything is possible.

Thank you. I keep on trying to make that point but its going on deaf ears.

FUCK IT! WIN NOW BEFORE YOU DIE PIZZA MAN! Go get Cano and pay him 40 mil a year and jose reyes and pay him 30 mil a yr. move peralta to 3b. We win!

Prob with Reyes is 2-fold. 1. He is oft-injured. 2. Peralta threw a tantrum in Cleveland when moved to 3b. I am sure the same would happen here.

I wouldnt mind Seeing the tigers go after Dejesus, Y. molina, Aram for 3rd. pitches how about a Harden or Ajax?

Answer yes or no... > Has he missed significant time in the LAST THREE YEARS.. I am just curious what you would want to give to a player that has missed that many games over three years... It is beyond dumb and a correct argument to have... If he had gotten hurt in different years It may be a different story but he has been hurt three years in a row..

Yeah you Guys want JP to go to third or maybe second base but i guess you forgot how well it worked for Cleveland when he moved over to third... Signing a player to a huge contract who may play 130 games is beyond laughable... His wheels have gotten hurt every year the last three.. That 29 war does you no good if its parked on the DL..

Now cano would be fantastic... He is a much better player then Reyes..
To bad he is a Yankee for life..

You are using the most convenient time span to try to enforce an opinion of not wanting him here. I get it. Why not say the last two years though? Then the average number jumps from 98 to 129 games/yr. If you use 4yrs, the average number jumps from 98 to 113 games/yr. It's all window dressing is my point. I think it's a bit disingenuous to say he's a 98 game/yr player.

I get that he's an injury risk, but he hits for average, steals bases, and hits for a lot of extra bases due to his speed. All things we lack at the top of our lineup. As for the rest of the facts, he was the NL batting champ this year, stole 39 bases this year, he's a 4-time all star, has a .292 career average, has a +29.2 WAR in his career (injuries included), and he plays arguably the highest value position on the field.

You guys are acting like Peralta is a fixture and a future HOF player. The fact of the matter is that Jhonny had a nice year, but played above his career averages in all aspects. What happens when he returns to his career .268 avg next year? Beyond that, he's signed for 1yr and $6mil. Who says he resigns after 2012? If you have the chance to upgrade shortstop and 2B/3B in one move, you do it. He'll play wherever he's told to and will be an upgrade over our current 2B/3B.

I would not even be bringing up his injury problem if it was not three years in a row. All you guys act like it is no big deal to sign a questionable health risk.

I think that Peralta would be amenable to playing 2B if the Tigers were to extend his contract for another year or two, and playing 2B is likely where he is gonna end up anyway as he gets closer to retirement. But I hope that if they land Reyes, he doesn't continue to be injury-prone, ala Zumaya, who is a very unlucky guy, healthwise.

Peralta does not want to play third, and we've got Inge for another season, like it or not.
