2020 Dem candidate

That's not true. I'm all for disabled period getting health care. But that's not what Bernie wants.

Bernie wants Medicare to cover everybody, period. No deductibles, no out-of-pocket costs, no out-of-network fees or hidden fees.

The profit motive (which is out of control) out of health insurance.

I want this too.

I have health insurance through my employer and it only gets more expensive every year, and covers less each year. it insane. Fuck these people.

Free health care for everyone is not a good idea. Imo. I agree insurance is too high in many cases. But at least you have a job.

health care costs are out of control. The problem is that the US government is inefficient.

In 2018 the US gov spent $582B on 44 million people that were covered by Medicare. According to what I read, the average out of pocket for medicare recipients was about $5,500. If my math is correct, healthcare for the 44M on medicare actually cost $824B or $18,727 per person.

There are currently 327M people in the US so the total bill to insure all with 100% coverage would be about $6.12 trillion per year.

total 2019 budget was $4.45 trillion.

I was going to mention something about the money but as I get older the new math :) But Medicare is about $145 a month at the moment. So even for people that have it its not free.

Does that count any out of pocket expenses that might occur if you have procedures, surgeries, dr. visits, etc?

The site I went to said the average out of pocket expense is about $5,500 per year.

You're probably right just saying that even someone on disability or medicare, it's not free. Just an open statement. I'm sure there are people who work that pay less than that.

right. but instead of paying what you pay to Blue Cross or United Health, you just pay the medicare fee to the government. And you have health care when you need it, and you no longer pay out-of-pocket, out of network bullshit fees or nickel-and-dime bullshit they do, since they have a profit motive of refusing to cover as much as possible.

And if you lose your job you still get it. no more insane COBRA costs. that particular program is ridiculous too... you change jobs and are out of work for a bit or get laid off, and now you're supposed to pay even more for worse health insurance..??? great plan! what a fucking country...

since it's tax season I have all of our info in front of me. Family of 3

$22K employer contribution for health, dental & vision
$10.3K is what was deducted from my wife's paychecks
+/- $5K out of pocket expenses last year.

$37K for the 3 of us.

That's a lot of money!

I almost forgot. We also contributed a little over $2900 towards medicare.

There needs to be a national crises declared and a huge focus on prevention care this is never going to stop spiraling out of control for as long as the ave American has a shit poor junk processed toxic diet and doesn't exercise. The truth is we are a very sick nation and the machine stays fat high on the hog making and keeping us sick.

Our insurance provider gives us discounts & rebates for doing things like getting an annual checkup, joining a gym, and many more. This gives us an incentive. I wonder what kind of incentives there will be with medicare for all? Probably none.

forced inoculations would likely come under medicare for all IMO. Complete gumbit control and ChiCom style boots to the head.

Without a job, remember that. I'll take a job and United Health or Humana than no job and Medicare.

There is no incentive now.

And your math doesn’t account for the increased demand once everything is “free”. Anyone who thinks consumption will stay flat is out of their mind. They’re also smoking crack if they think supply will increase because they are going to have to severely cut doctors pay. Does anyone think the best and brightest are going to put up with that? They are going to retire or choose different career and academic paths which will drive down the quality of care as well. Of course it will also destroy innovation in medicine. The knock-on affects of this monumentally stupid idea are large and far reaching.

These are arguments for deregulation and insurance reform not to mention tort reform - not for giving the whole country the same shitty, clearly failed healthcare they give to veterans. That system has no profit motive and no insurance companies bribing politicians and it is indisputably far, far worse than the system we have. In your system you don’t get healthcare when you need it, you get healthcare when it’s your turn IF some government schlub says you need it.

Also, please educate yourself or stop spreading outright lies. Under COBRA you don’t get less insurance for more money. You get the exact same coverage you had when you were employed - same carrier, same plan and it’s automatic, there is no health screening. The only difference is since you are no longer an employee, you have to pay the employer portion of the premium and even that is negotiable. When I got laid off, my employer offered to keep paying premiums for 6 months but I negotiated and got them to cover me and my family for for a year or until I became eligible under a new employer plan.

Bernie has already accounted for the shortage of doctors. He's going to re-train people that used to work in the abandoned oil refineries.
