2024 Election

There's an interesting factoid floating around that only one (1) current or former U.S. president was not a slaveowner himself, OR does not have an ancestor or ancestors that were slave owners, and that one is Donald Trump. All his ancestors came to the US AFTER slavery had been abolished by the 13th Amendment.

Hell of a legacy, America!

Not at all certain it's just to hold non-slave-owning presidents accountable for the sins of their ancestors. And is U.S. Grant considered a "slave owner" in the same vein as, say, Andrew Jackson?

Certainly not, in my opinion.

In a sense, it speaks more to the importance of wealth in providing a means to an education and the connections to advance in America.

But several presidents still grew up poor, like Clinton, so maybe the factoid is more of a curiosity. It's still a little surprising that we have only produced one president from the ranks of post-Civil War immigrants

I suppose that depends on one's definition of "advancement."

My great grandfather was born in 1867, so I expect that we'll see more of them from now on.

Ouch.

Is DeSantis just stupid? How much of the U.S. population outside of Florida has a positive impression of it? Who does he think he's appealing to?

There's a growing chunk of the right that think Florida is the beacon that represents what America could and should be. I think you'd be surprised how much they'll eat this up.

How dare Biden lower Trumpflation to 2.97%, he's just openly improving the disaster he inherited now just to try to win re-election.

Also lowering the Trump crime wave which is way down since the 2020 Trump spike:

Also fixing the total and complete disaster he inherited at the border:

Just naked in his effort to make America better in almost everyway, just so he can have a better country to win re-election on. Shameless.

It?s more surprising that people will eat this tweet up as if it?s some indictment of DeSantis intellect or his ability to lead - in this case, it looks like this is coming from the pro Trump camp (don't have Twitter so I can't tell if MAGA War Room is a parody account or a pro Trump one) but in the case of the opposition, at the same time those people defend every fall, misstep, Freudian slip and obvious dementia moment of their guy. It never ceases to amaze me how hard people try to criticize literally everything he does or says and the mountains they attempt to make out of mole hills to do that.

Regardless of whether it's the left or pro-Trump people, to me, clips like this are an indication of the perceived threat DeSantise poses to them. It?s funny to me that people think this is an indication that DeSantis is dumb. People just try too hard - see post #487 for another example).

The inflation rate at the end of 2020 was 1.4%.
By the end of 2021 it was up to 7%.
The average for 2022 was 6.5%

"Trumpflation" - that one was almost as funny as his claim that the border was worse when Biden came into office. Or that Biden is making urban America safer - they're all pretty good knee slappers.

I think he gets his economic and political news from the same guys that provide him with insider information on MSU football and basketball recruiting...

Holy cow! I had no idea Republicans were so much more corrupt (112x more corrupt) than the people that corrupted the DOJ, FBI, IRS, etc. Thanks Politi"fact" and J2x. You're nailing it!

Yeah the source isn?t Politfact.

Source is Facebook. Politifact reviewed the Facebook claims. Link to Politfact review, accuracy mixed review.

It?s good that you come on here knowing what you?re talking about, though.

Biden SHOULD have way more than that.

and Reagan and the Bushes should be off the charts in a category of their own.

There probably could have been at least two more from the Clinton administration (him and his wife) if not for all the suicides.

Even if it was true instead of "half true" according to Politi"fact", it's amusing that to some, this 335 to 3 is proof of corruption from one side and not evidence of corruption on the other side.

If he nails it with a few more facts like his last couple of posts, he may be able to convince Tigermud to vote for Biden next year.

don't get me wrong, both of them are terrible people, but if Bill & Hillary really had the power to wack people without any one finding out, other than Alex Jones types, you really think the Monica Lewinsky thing would've happened the way it did, he would be all over Epstein's flight logs, and she would've lost to Trump?

yeah, Bill was already known as a serial philanderer when he got elected. If he got elected after the Jennifer Flowers story and Paula Jones accusations were known, I don't think they'd feel threatened by a chubby intern.

Clinton wasn't going to jail for diddling interns, and none of his extramarital affairs hurt him with Dems - feminist groups like NOW either completely abandoned his victims or got in on the victim bashing. The guy had near impunity when it came to his sexual escapades - even against credible accusations of sexual assault and rape (same with Joe Biden).

This list of Clinton associates linked to much more serious allegations who have committed suicide or been murdered is shockingly long. Clinton had been out of office for years when the Epstein news hit and don't forget, Epstein still "committed suicide." I doubt it's all coincidental or pure chance that they seem to work with so many people with severe depression.

As for the loss to Trump, the Clinton's grip on the party was nothing like it was pre-Obama and even if it was, I doubt even they would have their leading Republican opponent commit suicide for them. They were still able to get away with a pretty massive, albeit somewhat failed conspiracy to undo that election though.

I just read something that makes all of these accomplishments even more amazing - he's been able to manage all of this while spending 353 days or a total of 40% of his presidency on vacation. I hope I'm half that productive when I'm 80.
