3yr old Blows Mom's Head Off

Of course not, that's because we are a nation of gun lovers.

And not many of those people can put 2 + 2 together and understand why we have more gun violence per year than almost every other country combined.

Yet people like the NRA keep on insisting that guns prevent more crimes than they cause.

I don't know. Never owned one, never shot one, never held one (until recently my mom bought a cooler home for Walmart with gun inside)..but regardless the NRA you're not going to convince the Joe schmo who has a gun that did save his life.

But if Americans don't care the laws won't change. On a side note, I read something here in Arizona if you have the gun and it stays here you don't have to register it. I thought I saw that, maybe I'm wrong.

I call dems out all the time, I said that they were total pussies on this issue.

Also, even if an issue isn't one of the top 3 or 5 concerns for the public doesn't mean that we can't move on legislation that makes sense.

And if it made sense it would stand a chance of passing. But the gun control hardliners always package background checks with unpalatable add-ons then wonder why they fail to get expanded background checks passed. And the low information spectator never gets past the title of the bill, which are very cleverly titled. He/she reads the words gun control or "children's gun safety act" and scratches their head wondering why that doesn't get passed.

I don't care that much about gun control. I don't own a gun and I have no plans to buy one. I know the odds of me being harmed by a legally purchased firearm are nearly zero. But I pay attention to the debate and I see how your side approaches it - half the people have no idea what they're talking about and think automatic weapons are legal and their "wish list" for gun control is extreme and ineffective. I support expanded background checks and possibly adding mental health checks (if it can be done in a way that protects privacy and isn't abused to arbitrarily deny citizens, particularly veterans their 2nd amendment rights). I don't care that much about high capacity magazines because I don't think they'd stop anything but whatever, I'd let that slide. The nonstarters for me are gun/ammo registries, banning certain rifles and confiscation programs like what they did during Katrina and the boston bomber manhunt. But they never separate those issues and I won't support it until they do. I don't think anyone should.

More guns = more gun violence!!?????

You just rocked my world. But I love my guns so I'm going to just go ahead and say you are wrong. Don't bother using any statistics because I will just ignore them.

the name of the bill was something like the 2nd ammendment preservation and protection act, it was that weak. I don't think mental health checks would abuse privacy rights any more than the patriot act does. as for your nonstarters, I'd ban certain assault rifles, no doubt. I'd also stiffen fines for posession of an illegally obtained firearm and for buying a gun for someone else (that was part of the bill).

regardless, if that watered down BS bill can't pass nothing ever will. Who knows if if would ever make a difference with the amount of guns in the country and also the fact that we just love to kill each other. a lot of that has to do with the failed war on drugs though. we just love to shoot each other here, it's a cultural thing.

it's not really teh GOP's pro-gun laws (though those are stupid too) that are responsible for dumb people leaving loaded guns around their house, but the statements from everyone on the Right - pundits, politicians, the NRA & the gun manufacturers, and more extreme gun nuts on the webs - that make gun ownership out to be some 100% safe thing, claim everyone should own guns, have them around the house for emergencies, encourage vigilantism, etc.

But come on, we've had record sales of guns & ammunition for years now, and if the only cost to society is the occasional American family scarred by a horrific accidental shooting, who are we to judge whether this is something that needs to change?

so keep it loaded and unlocked... after all, it's totally likely someone you may or may not even know will break into your house and kill your family execution style for absolutely no reason before the police can get there... happens all the time.

"It" was one of something like 14 bills proposed this year and it was called that so people would think it was pro 2nd Amendment and not read the actual bill. If you actually read it, you'd see they bundled several things that people won't trade or cave in on in exchange for expanded background checks. As for banning "assault" weapons - automatic weapons are already illegal. There is no reason to ban semi-automatic rifles just because they look like military style weapons.

Unfortunately these tragedy's happen to many times in America..We all know it.. What can be done to fix it? If we could just come to some agreement between the two sides maybe we could stop some of these deaths..
