Trammell, Morris selected by Modern Era Committee, were members of Detroit's last World Series winner.

"It certainly gives me a sense of pride," Morris said. "I know that Tiger fans have been loyal ever since that year. I think a lot of people in Michigan always wondered why a team that was so good and so dominant never had someone to represent them in the Hall of Fame. And so I'm proud that Alan made it and I made it together. I can't think of a better scenario than to go in with a former teammate that I love and respect so much.

"Jack and I are going in to represent our era. I think Lou, hopefully in some time, will," Trammell said. "That'll put a big smile on my face."

To many, any recognition for the Tigers of that era was long overdue. The fact that it came from a committee that included several Hall of Famers who played against that 1984 squad meant even more.

"Trust me, I've thought about that for a long time," Morris said. "I thought about that while I was still on the writers' ballot. And there is some real warmth there that those guys were on the field against me [voted], more so than young writers who never saw me."

Mickey Lolich (29) and Lou Whitaker's (1) uni #s s/b retired as well, IMO...as will likely JV (35) and Miguel Cabrera's (24) someday.

Tigers announce they'll retire Jack Morris' number 47 in a pregame ceremony Aug. 12.
They'll retire Alan Trammell's number 3 on Aug. 26.
 
Is anyone else planning on attending the induction? I'm going with two friends. We haven't found a good place to stay yet. Anyone have any suggestions for any hotels?
 
?I never had a mound visit that did a damn bit of good? I told (pitching coach Roger Craig) that there was no reason to say anything when he came out, because I already knew. So the next time he came out, he just stood there. And I stood there, looking up in the air. Lance Parrish comes out and looks at us. Then Roger walks back to the dugout. Never said a word.? ? My apartment is but a 1 hour drive to Cooperstown. I don't know if I will be out of town that weekend or not, but if not, I do intend on attending. My brother and nephew might be driving over from MI.

If I was you, I would look at hotels in Utica, NY area. It is under an hour drive. Or if you want, Verona, NY. Turning Stone Casino is in Verona and they have quite a few rooms. Still roughly 1-hour drive to Cooperstown.
