Ann Coulter Arrested in NC

Wow.

I don't think I've ever seen Ann Coulter on Mahar before.

I'm going to have to watch this episode on demand.

Ann was at Michigan Law school around 85-88. Did anyone on here know her (I'm watching the Real Time episode on demand right now)?

Oh yeah, they are good friends.

My point was I watch the show pretty often, but as often as I watch it, surprisingly I had never seen her on it before.

Vic, I don't understand. satire usually has some humorous exaggerations or other comments to make it's intent clear. but everything in that article u posted seems completely realistic.

yeah, I could easily see where you would look at that picture and be impressed by her "man arms". Imagine the size of the weeds those things could pull.

I watched part of the episode on demand. Ann and Bill weren't as funny with each other as I would have thought they would be.

Yeah, The Onion need not worry ... That said, you're right - it's almost too true and there have been plenty of jokes at "her" expense along these lines for years ... and she and Bill Maher are buddies. She appeared on his show when it was on ABC late night - not so much on HBO, that I've seen.

I wonder how/when/why Anne Coulter decided to flush the relatively promising start to her legal career down the toilet and whore herself out to the pandering Right-wing media machine? though the reason is pretty obvious: judging from her career bio, it took place right at the time in your career where playtime ends and real work begins.

I'm guessing she'd be pretty defensive about it. BUT who knows, maybe somewhere deep down, she actually has a real sense of humor and would joke about the whole thing? like "ha, Bill Maher and I are laughing all the way to the bank!"

I'd say, "don't worry Anne, I know there's no way you could actually believe the crap that comes out of your mouth. your secret is safe with me."

I would say you answered your own question - I view her more as a satirist than a serious commentator.

I don't think she would see it as much of a secret though.

I don't think it's satire as much as knowing your audience ...I would liken it more to some of the antics Ozzy pulled off on stage -- it was entertainment and his fans loved it, so he gave them more and more.. He wasn't Satanic or a Devil worshiper but it played well.

Coulter knows she is "hated" and relishes the villain role and makes bank for it! I have heard plenty of her male fans talk about how hot she is and how the "libs" just can't stand being put in their place by her ...

Frankly, I haven't heard nor seen much of her since the 2008 election when she was trying to help scare the electorate out of voting for Obama

her bio on wikipedia contains a lot of information about her upbringing in a Conservative Irish catholic family that idolized Joe McCarthy, and the other Real Crazies of the time. some of it is unintentionally hilarious: her brother would insist she read Consertive authors and as a reward would take her out to bars with he and his college buddies NYC. Yeah...i bet that was a real fun time...

so while I have a hard time thinking she actually believes the odious bile she spews, it's certainly possible, on some level she really is a true believer.

Of late, Ann seems to me to have re-invented her broadcast interview personae as a warmer, fuzzier version of her dragon lady self.

Maybe she has come to understand one of granny's favorite adages - you can sell more books with honey than you can with vinegar.

I'm don't think she fits quite so neatly in that box. The only mention on the page of Catholicism is where it says her dad was and her mom wasn't.
