Brady Hoke's first bowl game is against the Virginia Tech "Hokies"?

Total ownage!

I think there was an on-line headline following the BCS Bowl Show that used the play on words.

Is it "Hokies" or "Hoakies"? What is a Hoakie anyway?? Anything to do with the hoagie sandwich?

it's more of a state of being... <blockquote>According to Johann Norstedt, now a retired Virginia Tech English professor, "[Hokie was] a word that people used to express feeling, approval, excitement, surprise. Hokie, then, is a word like 'hooray,' or 'yeah,' or 'rah.'"</blockquote>and they have a turkey mascot. Unrelated to the "hokie" term... kinda like the WKU Hilltoppers that have that goofy red blob guy as their mascot.<blockquote>The team mascot is the HokieBird, a turkey-like creature. The teams were originally known as the "Fighting Gobblers," and the turkey motif was retained despite the name change.</blockquote>

I don't know about anyone else, but Beamer's goiter sort of makes him look like a turkey ..

Ok, thanks Perfesser! Since it is on the VT website I'll take that as the explanation.

I know what I'll be eating for the game on Jan. 3rd.

GO BLUE! BEAT THE TURKEYS!

a couple years ago, I was watching them play in some bowl game with a friend of mine.

we noticed that every time Beamer was on the screen, he had his mouth open and a confused look on his face. It didn't matter what had just happened... TD, Pass interference, fumble, big gain, small gain, no gain, etc.

I started saying in a redneck voice... "Na ha in the hell you gone let that boay do [insert what just happened on field] on ya?" whenever they put him on camera.

it became a tradition whenever we saw a VaTech game, like last year when Stanford kicked the crap out of them.
