Backus retires

Backus MAY have given them an indication he was going to retire a while ago...he probably just made the official announcement today.

He put in 12 seasons on bad teams protecting QBs he'd rather see killed. He's done all that could be asked and more.

If he gave the team the heads up, he's awesome. If not, he's earned the right to make a decision late.

See ya Jeff. You weren't spectacular or anything, but you played hard for us man. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

Do you think Fox or Hilliard would be better at RT? Hilliard said one of the reasons he resigned was because he was told he'd be able to compete for a starting spot. I honestly don't know who I'd rather have there.

i think we'd be weak on the ride side in either case. if it was up to me itd probably be Reiff at RT but with this news youd have to think reiff slides to LT until we sign/draft someone to play there.

True professional. He played hard every single Sunday for some terrible teams. Was a true iron man and a class act. He was never a 'great' LT, but you don't play nearly 12 years nonstop without having some talent.

If it wasnt apparent already, it's no obvious that the is a rebuilding year for the OLine. Lots of guys are going to need to step up if they want to keep Stafford on his feet.

Makes me really wish the team would have known this two days ago and could have landed someone like Bushrod in free agency. Leaves some pretty big question marks headed into the draft.

Rumor has it Saffold is going to request a trade out of St. Louis if/when they sign Long. Might be a nice way to go if he doesn't cost an arm and a leg in picks.

Saffold is a pretty good option ink. We'll see what transpires.

Saffold only has one year left. He'd need a long term deal. Is worth as much as Bushrod and Gosder got
