Been showing a lot of Old School M football the past few days ...

2004 vs MSU - Braylon 3OT Thriller
2003 at MIN - Friday night at Minny comeback w/Navarre
1999 at WIS - Tom Brady (and Drew Henson) at Wisky ...

I think any time after the 4th of July is just pretty much pre-football season, season.

a wiser fellow than myself once said it's important not to rush the summer. learn to appreciate these long days, and don't look forward to the fall, because it will be here before you know it.

the best way to do that, is to save up enough money during the winter, then quit your job on May 31st, and spend all of June, July, and August BBQ'ing outside, drinking beers, watching baseball games, sailing, going to the beach, swimming, going to music festivals, laughing, singing, dancing, watching the fireworks, and so forth.

then, on September 1st, when you're running out of money, and the weather is going to start getting cooler... kill yourself.

Why would a person kill themself just at the start of football season?

Just go back to your old job; work hard and make good money again Monday through Friday, then Saturdays it's college football party day!

Sunday is a free day to do whatever a person wants.

A person can quit their job again May 31st, if they want to, but I would recommend holding off on shaving one's lid until the solstice is actually here again.

Yep plenty of time to kill yourself after jan 2 or later if Michigan makes the national title game

what if in my hypothetical, you quit your job in order to enjoy summer to the fullest and were now out of money and could not afford basic cable, or even a television set, where you could watch the game.

I would advise someone to hold off on quitting their job for a few weeks or so - maybe until the solstice - in order to avoid that scenario.

Maybe not drink or sing quite so much during the summer.

I agree. Hanging onto your job long enough and budgeting so that you can still watch Michigan Football should be the primary strategy. But if we're already past that point, then maybe drinking and singing and such can be used to make friends that still have cable and a TV could be backup plan. A tertiary strategy could be nursing a drink or two for the duration of the game at a sports bar. If you can blend in with an alumni group, that's even more doable. If you can't swing that, your quarternary option should probably be to apply for a job at a sports bar that will be showing the game.

I just prefer to have a Michigan football game on in the background when doing mundane "work" at home ...regardless of whether it's from 2004 or 1997.

I've even put EA sports on comp vs. comp in the background for this purpose.

what's settled?

watching classic games on BTN is different than counting down the days to Game 1....

The one classic game I'd like to see is the 10-10 '73 tie with OSU.

That game was on back in the spring. I felt bad for Mike Lantry all over again.

I remember that we had a very out-of-the-ordinary Saturday basketball scrimmage against another school in the area on that day. I couldn't believe they scheduled it on the day of The Game. Fortunately, one of the coaches had a transistor radio (look it up, kids) and we stopped our game/practice to listen to the last 5 minutes or so. Went home sad, but expected to go to the Rose Bowl. That, of course, didn't happen.

Is that one of those things you build out of coconuts?

I think it's one of these:

kids used to listen to the rap music on it
