Bill O'Reilly also lied about being in combat, but since he's only on Fox News...

That's not splitting hairs. There's actually a big difference between exaggerating or using hyperbole and repeatedly telling multiple bold faced lies.

It is splitting hairs. You got a national news audience, you should be telling the truth, period. No exaggerations, no hyperbole. The severity of the lie is after the fact.

The difference between you and me is I'm not going to defend either one of those clowns, while you're arguing the difference between little white lies and whoppers, most likely only so you have something to argue about.

It looks like it already happened. Many Claim Jesse Jackson lied about his circumstances associated with the death of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King.

Some King associates, still bitter, have accused Mr. Jackson of fabricating or exaggerating his role after the assassination.

I guess I meant real national figures that affect policy, not marginalized ones.

You know ironically, MC as I'm thinking about it, my explanation of the ramifications on each Fox and O'Reilly and NBC and Williams explains the truth of the thread title and the OP - it looks like O'Reilly probably lied-or significantly exaggerated anyway-but "it's only Fox news" is exactly correct-not that nobody cares, but the powers that be don't care nearly as much.

I know, I know.

the FCC maintains a looser grip on cable.

I wrote a paper on the history of media/tv/radio censorship in the US for a First Amendment class, but I can't find it anymore. It got lost in one of the transitions from laptop to laptop over the years.

Yes.

Generally the FCC jealously guards the public airwaves in so far as making sure that broadcast licensees are operating in the public interest.

On the other hand, it views content on cable as being part of the broad "marketplace of ideas."

My favorite was how 'Colorado voters would be allowed to fax in ballots'

Fox has finally admitted Bill O. also lied about seeing people killed in El Salvador and Northern Ireland:
Fox News has admitted, in answer to questions from the Washington Post, that host Bill O?Reilly did not witness any bombings in Northern Ireland or murders in El Salvador. The network said he saw only photographs of such atrocities.
I should send these pics to O'Reilly and see what crazy new claims he comes up with in his next book:

I hear his daughter accused him of beating the shit out of his ex wife and dragging her down the stairs, I for one am absolutely shocked, this seems so out of character for a stand up guy like Bill

I saw that. Thanks for bumping this thread! It makes me happy when we don't waste internet by making too many new threads, and can re-use old ones.

The divorce sounds like a mess mainly due to Bill O. himself. When you have to hire a neutral psychotherapist to mediate custody of your kids, you're already in the Bad Divorce Hall of Fame.

THEN when you finally get that resolved, but upset it by putting the psychotherapist on your own payroll and forcing him or her to answer to you alone... you're going for some sort of all time record.

Bill O also got the local PD to "investigate" his ex-wife's new boyfriend (a member of the force), and have the Catholic Church excommunicate her!!!!

DO NOT CROSS BILL O'REILLY!

The Christian god is on his side.
