Bowl Committees on PSU

I heard a PSU student on the radio say that there were more than a couple 'flashmob/viral' events planned for the game.

One was students planning to wear BLUE during a planned White Out as a sign of respect to the victims...
Another was students planning to sit and not sing the part of the fight song about 'valor,' etc...
A third was something to show student body support for Paterno

Anyways

This scandal is not going away any time soon. And it is not being handled well by the PSU administration or students. I will never be able to watch a PSU game again and not think about this scandal.

I don't expect PSU to win the next three games: Nebraska, @OSU, @Wisky. Tough remaining schedule. But if they were to win their division, I would expect there to be termemdous pressure from the conference for them to step aside in favor of the next team in line. It would be an embarrasment to the Big 10 for them to play in the conference championship, and it would be even worse if they were to win the first conference championship. The championship would be forever tainted by this scandal. I can't see the conference allowing this to happen. Even though it is not any of the current player's fault. Sad for them.

With regard to the automatic BCS bid, it would be the worst case scenario for PSU to win the conference and get the automatic BCS bid. It would do irreparable damage to the image of the conference. The conference cannot allow this to happen. If by some chance PSU were to win their division and the conference championship, I would expect the conference to find some way to prevent them from going to the BCS. A consensus vote of the schools ADs or something as to who should be given the BCS bid. I expect that the conference will quietly come up with some sort of mechanism like this to safeguard itself against such a situation in the future.

Well, for starters, I think it's more likely that Wisky wins out and PSU loses against either Nebraska or Ohio* or both and the Badgers or the Buckeyes win the Leaders Division.

With regard to everything else, I'll worry about that if things go differently.

My question in the OP was for any bowl, not just a BCS.

Well, I thought before all this, that PSU would beat Nebraska and Ohio. What we think might've happened really doesn't matter, though.

Okay Vic. Regarding other bowls, I think it will really depend on how PSU handles the scandal. If they can get in front of it enough and sell the arguement that the current team, especially seniors, didn't have anything to do with the scandal, and that it is really is unfair to penalize these players, who have worked hard and sacrificed for many years, in what will be the last game of many of their lives..... Then maybe they get a lesser bowl.

The way that the scandal has been handled so far, I don't see this happening. The response of the students at today's game will be crucial. Though in my view, the team has earned a bowl appearance.

Watching the Penn State pre game is making me ill. Way to have a big celebration Penn State. Hope it's worth it.

Good replies, both

Well, all that has to happen for Penn St to win their side of the division is 1 loss by UW
