Anybody got a clue what Leyland is talking about here? This was a tweet from Tom Gage on 6/14.

"Tom Gage ‏@Tom_Gage

Brad Eldred is "a story for another day, you'll see," said Leyland - leading to speculation Eldred isn't long for ‪#Tigers‬ organization."

Is there a trade in the works or did Eldred get in trouble or something? I thought they were really quick to send him back down when he was up before, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was something internal that was an issue.

Eldred is not on the 40-man roster because he was designated for assignment.

Probably someone wondering why Raburn was brought back up and not Eldred.

I understand that, it just seems odd that his reply is that Brad Eldred is "a story for another day". Wouldn't you think his reply would have been about Raburn having versatility, experience or some other garbage like that if there wasn't a story about Eldred?

When reading what Leyland said, I got the feeling he meant Eldred would come back later in the year.....maybe wrong, but haven't read/found anything about an internal problem while he was up.

I suppose that could make sense. Maybe they'll add him to the bench when rosters expand in hopes he could be the type of guy to pinch hit for a needed 3-run HR. Still seems like an odd statement to make, but then again, it is Leyland.

They would still have to add him to the 40 man in order to call him up when rosters expand, meaning they have to DFA or release someone else.

It's pretty unlikely, though not impossible, that the Tigers would re-add Eldred to the 40 man after dropping him. They did it for Inge, but I think that was because Mr. I liked a loyal guy like Brandon, I can't see it with Eldred.

Report out of Japan that Hiroshima Carp are interested in Toledo's Brad Eldred- could mean why Tigers haven't brought him back.

Report: Japanese team interested in signing Brad Eldred, who was late scratch from Toledo's lineup.
from Mlive

Leyland said Thursday that one of the reasons the Tigers recalled Ryan Raburn from Toledo last week was because they needed a right-handed hitter and didn't have many options on the 40-man roster.
"We just don't have a right-handed hitter," Leyland said. (Brad) Eldred's the only guy, and that's a story for another day".

I was going to comment, he seems like a player that could go the Japan and rake there, make more money there then here, be a big star over there, etc.

Spend the end of his career there.

Who do we get in returned... I wants some value!!!! Any slick fielding second baseman over there that can double his weight in the obp department :) Good for Brad if this is the case. Maybe he can make some more bank...

Are there ever international player for player trades or is it only player for cash trades?

Yeah I like stories like this. If someone has done that well in the minors and just couldn't cut in the bigs. It's nice that they have a way to do something with the talent they got that just ain't quite major league ready. I hope he rakes over there.

Yeah I hope he does well over in Japan.. Brad sure has a lot of Minor league homers!!!! he better get ready for the off-speed pitch.

Tigers release Brad Eldred from Triple-A Toledo. He's decided to sign with Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan. as expected.

That is odd....they don't get anything for him?

I don't think it works like that with the Japanese Nippon League and players coming or going. MLB clubs have to do a posting fee we know that, but then is it for all their players or just the marquee players over there?
If I can find out for sure proof positive I will post, or if someone else knows exactly please post for all here.

The thing I don't undestand is why they let him go. He was under contract....it just hurts their AAA team.

Just really strange... Maybe Brad just went to Detroit and said let me go.

what I get out of it, he was just one of several 1B DH types sort of expendable.
He thanked the Tigers for signing him to a AAA contract and the chance with Tigers although short stint.

The Tigers announced they have signed infielder Jeff Baisley to a minor-league contract -- a move that essentially replaces Eldred's spot on the Mud Hens' roster.

Eldred joins a slew of former Tigers who have signed with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, including: Timo Perez, Sean Douglass, Rod Allen and Colby Lewis.
