Caldwell on fixing Stafford's accuracy

I think it's obvious this team does not need a complete overhaul. They were in the playoff hunt deep into last season, and if not for a horrible collapse, had a chance to win the division title. Hell, it was handled to them on a silver platter before they spilled it all over themselves.

This team needs discipline. They need fundamental football reinforced. They need some minor tweaks on both sides of the ball to take them over the hump.

I don't think any intelligent person can argue that they didn't master the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory the last few years, but the fact that it took a collapse of epic proportions to stop them from winning the division also goes to show the talent to win it is in fact there.

We needed some new pieces to replace the ones that left in free agency. We need a new outlook from the coaching staff, and one that preaches stupid penalties will be eliminated, and we need to get smarter not harder on both sides of the ball.

But that is 100% fixable in a very short time frame.

the fact of the matter is they don't know how to win. additionally, you expect a few people to come in and change that particular culture? slim to none. at the end of the day good organizations know how to put together a solid team that makes the playoffs consistently. problem is people believe that we are one or two players away from being a playoff team. if you listen to the experts, they will tell you they are far from being a playoff team. character issues, misjudged talent, inept coaching, discipline, not being prepared, are all things that can be corrected but not in one season. we need an elite front office man, Elite GM, elite scouting staff, and an elite head coach. we have none of those. you could put the best players in the game on this team, and between the current front office, GM, and coaches they will not win. get your head out of the sand. this team will not make the playoffs next year.

Even losing Young/Idonije I think Jason Jones healthy and Devin Taylor playing more is an upgrade or even at least.

That leaves backup QB and then the draft for a 3rd WR (outside preferably that could do something even without Calvin opposite him) and more young DB help. Plenty of early picks for that.

But who knows, Stafford or Calvin could miss like 10 games and the haters would crow another year. Plus it's a tough division despite the records (6-2 with Rodgers and Bears fixing their defense).

No expert has ever said in 2013 that we were far from the playoffs. Most people in the media say they are very talented.

that's cause we weren't ever far away from making the playoffs. A "talented" team shouldn't ever be far away from the playoffs when your division rivals both have their starting qbs down for a good portion of the year. Buuuuuut...we shit the bed....again. Wilted away like we always do....and we did so while being in one of the worst divisions in football last year.

agreed. healthy jones/ansah is better than young/idonije. But we still need depth and it should be addressed in the draft. Personally, I would have upgraded this position first and foremost in FA so Jones could be used as a rotational guy either at DE or DT. Since we decided not to youll see us grab a DE in rds 2-4.

We swept the Bears and beat the Pack. Didn't wilt with those advantages. The other games were the problem for turnover reasons. Bucs, Giants, Ravens and Steelers were all hot at the time.

And McCown was better than Cutler. Upgrade for them.

Lions weren't healthy in that 1-6 stretch either. And Lions weren't exaclty healthy Week 5 against GB. GB was healthy that day.

what was cutlers record as the starter and what was mccown's

He was 3-2 in the games that he started.... But he threw for 1,829 12 td and 1 pick in total. I'd say better than Cutler, just my opinion.

Why is nobody talking about Jim Bob Cooter the QB tutor dammit!

Giants had lost 3 of 4 when meeting the Lions.

Steelers had lost 2 of 3 when meeting the Lions.

Ravens/Bucs were on 3 and 2 games win streaks respectively but those wins came against pretty shitty teams. Hell, the Bucs we're 2-7 or 2-8??

I've learned to tolerate your epic homer opinion this off season but the blatant bullshit lies are too much.

Cutler 5-6. I am right again. Mccown upgrade

So McCown would be an upgrade over Stafford too then right? He did have better stats and a better win pct than both Cutler and Stafford.

Caldwell does have his chance. if he suceeds ill give him credit. If he fails...ill laugh at you for missing on yet another of your failed mystical fantasyland predictions.

How hilarious would it be if staff drops back for his first pass of 2014....guns it to tate on a quick slant. Pick 6!

As a Lions fan, why on Earth would that be funny to you?

cause the entire offseason has been how Caldwell and Lombardi are EXACTLY what we need to "fix" Stafford. We got him coaching, we got him the awesome 800+ yd WR Stafford has always needed apparently...then I have to hear these BS stats all the time how Stafford is the best qb in the league when leading in the first 3 minutes of the game when its above 65 degrees outside and the vortex of the sun aligns with the moons gravitational pull. I think itd be comical after this franchise goes all in on Matt...again and again and again ....if he came out and showed us right off the bat that he hasn't learned anything.

Goes all in on Matt? Why wouldn't you? He's shown his skills as a QB multiple times. He's still only 25-26 years old. You rip this organization and Schwartz for saying that Stafford isn't the problem and doing nothing for the last 4-5 years. Now you rip on Caldwell for saying he has some flaws and wants to help him. We have brought in some QB guys, LEGIT QB guys now and you still fn bitch..lol. What do you want people to say? What on Earth makes you happy, you miserable motherfker?? I don't get it...
