He did crowd the plate. If memory serves, he got hit in the butt a lot
 
I loved Chet Lemon. It was great when he hit a grounder in the IF and he went straight to the pitcher. Payback is a bitch, lol.
 
Memories of Chet Lemon are him in that whitesox uniform with shorts, the head first dives into first base, and one of a few great defensive CF'ers the Tigers have had that ran everything down....
Before Jackson, Kaline for a couple of years, Mickey Stanley, and Chet Lemon.
 
I saw Chet play CF in Tiger Stadium as a White Sox in 1976 and they wore those hideous carnival unis. The Bird stifled the Sox 3-1. I wish I could claim they were wearing their shorts, but I don't think so.

That was Minny Minoso in the background of that pic. 102 year old pinch hitter wearing shorts is a scary thing.
