Clowney

I have a feeling Clowney is going to be a problem child and turn out to be a bust.

Sort of a BUST like how he played this year after ESPNsucks gave him the Heisman last spring...?

Heh

Ass-clowney

Please tell me you aren't suggesting trading Stafford. That would be a 43 million dollar cap hit. Basically making it impossible.

hes a 43 mil cap hit now and playing worse than half the league. If we put him on a different team then he will start completing passes to our guys :D Its a win win.

The dude is a beast on the field. I don't expect him to be a bust just because he drives fast. Suh seems to have the same off-field problems, and he's one of the best DTs in the league.

Clowney is easily a better prospect than any of the DEs last year. Trading Stafford for him doesn't make sense because of money (and the fact that we would take Bridgewater rather than Clowney if we had no QB), but it's kind of silly to think a couple driving infractions purport a future of failure.

bottom line is we need to get away from the big 3 contracts if were ever going to put a complete team on the field.

I'm agreeing with this. I like Suh, I like Calvin and I like Staff but what I like more it's a team who can compete. They make too much damn money. But Staff is not tradable at this point.

I think they can compete short term but everything has to go perfectly....they NEED to make several perfect hits in the draft and they really haven't done that. The problem is down the road after re-structuring over and over it will catch up to you.

I hate to say it, but I think Stafford or CJ have to go if they want to get rid of one of the big 3 contracts. The decision will come down to, do you want a high-paid QB in the hopes that he makes average/young WRs better, or do you want a high-paid WR in the hopes that he makes your average/young QB better.

There just seems to be an awful lot of money invested in a QB/WR combo.

Bold = Top 10 QB based on Cap Hit
Italics = Top 10 WR based on Cap Hit

2013 Top QB/WR Combo based on Cap Hit
1. Detroit: Stafford/Johnson - $26,593,000
2. NY Giants: Manning/Nicks - $24,555,000
3. New Orleans: Brees/Moore - $21,968,750
4. NY Jets: Sanchez/Holmes - $21,853,125
5. Denver: Manning/Welker - $21,650,000
6. Houston: Schaub/Johnson - $21,277,918
7. Philadelphia: Vick/Jackson - $21,200,000

11. New England: Brady/Amendola - $17,343,750
12. Pittsburgh: Roethlisberger/Brown - $16,715,000
13. Green Bay: Rodgers/Nelson - $15,975,000

15. St. Louis: Bradford/Austin - $14,913,364

23. Tampa Bay: Orlovsky/Williams - $8,954,562
24. Minnesota: Cassel/Jennings - $8,700,000
25. Tennessee: Locker/Washington - $8,532,546
26. Buffalo: Kolb/Johnson - $8,150,000
27. San Francisco: McCoy/Boldin - $7,445,625
28. Jacksonville: Henne/Blackmon - $7,415,563
29. Cincinnati: Dalton/Green - $6,791,535
30. Miami: Tannehill/Wallace - $6,130,069
31. Cleveland: Weeden/Bess - $4,520,515
32. Oakland: Pryor/Ford - $2,193,388

I know it's probably a crude way of doing it, but it looks like Detroit, NY Jets, and Philadelphia are the only teams with a top 10 QB and top 10 WR based on cap hit.

whats their record together??....something isn't working. So I can sit on here with rose colored glasses on like half the board and say how awesome we are. Or I can tell you the truth....these players aren't winning. So they can go on every thread and say how we should keep mayhem, and Stafford is a top 10 qb, and calvin hasn't regressed, and suh will take a pay decrease to stay here.......but if history has shown.....most of what the rose colored glasses stuff people say on here doesn't happen.

94 mil should pay for a lot more than what staff has done
21 mil should pay for a lot more than 5.5 sacks
Calvin is probably the only one out of the 3 that actually deserves his money.

When matt Flynn and josh mccown led teams finish ahead of you ...your team isn't any good.

When you lose to the giants and tampa bay....your team isn't any good.

When the only quality win the entire season is the bears at home....your team isn't any good.

I'll take a less expensive QB and two or three lesser wide receivers. The team is too top heavy.

hit/[/url]

that's been my main complaint of Stafford since hes been here.....he doesn't make his WRs any better. Miss miss drop drop then calvin bails him out. rinse ....repeat....

No one else has stepped up....ever. And that's not on the Wrs.....that's on Stafford needing to play like hes being paid top 3 money. guy just doesn't make plays.

Most know Matt is not a top QB. This isn't about rose colored glasses when it comes to Calvin though, it's the fact if the meaning regressed means less of a year that was a no brainer. No way he was going to reach the numbers he has in 2012. But that's not what regressed means or maybe Barry regressed the year following his 2053 yard season.

He is nowhere close to 41 mil. He is 17 this year and 15 next year.

consistency....making big plays when we need them.....single handedly killing drives.....hes hurt staff more than hes helped the 2nd half of the year. Look at his stats after the monster dallas game:

I agree. Look at the 3 teams in the NFC west (SF,Seattle & AZ) that had massive turnarounds. The 49ers made a bold move trading away their #1 overall pick to KC and went with a 2nd round QB. They got two 2nd round picks for him and moved back 6 spots in the second in 2013 and acquired a 3rd. Now they are an 11-12 win team with 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of next years draft. They also have Marcus Lattimore that they drafted last year and stashed. Then you have Seattle. They took a flyer on Wilson. They have drafted well over the past 3-4 years and are now the SB favorites. Finally there is AZ. They went a different route with an average FA QB but they too have drafted well over the past few years. The one thing all three of these teams have in common is they are great defensive teams and they drafted well. Maybe the Lions should do what the Browns just did. Blow it up and start over.

So how is not catching enough of his targets his fault? We know our QB is inconsistent as hell. 6 for 100 is pedestrian? He's had a few more drops and a couple of those were big but when the QB is a 58% thrower what do you want?

I would have said Calvin has had a bad game or two, maybe, but as far as the season he's about the best.
