Democratic socialism

I think the democratic socialist got the term from the western European social democracies. Those countries have private property capitalist economies with a lot of regulation and high taxes.

I think the Democratic socialist said to each other “hey those countries are really cool! The United States should be more like those countries! Let’s advocate systems in the United States that are more like the western European social democracies and call ourselves democratic socialists!”

And then Ocasio-Cortez beat Joe Crowley and started calling herself a democratic socialist and a star was born.

"I mean, to me, it means democracy, frankly," Senator Sanders added. "That's all it means."

As the DSA's website states: "At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. As we are unlikely to see an immediate end to capitalism tomorrow, DSA fights for reforms today that will weaken the power of corporations and increase the power of working people."

corporations in America aren't so powerful because of capitalism - they're powerful because of crony corporatism and their cozy relationship with government. The idea that nationalizing them "democratically" as Champ suggests will fix that is asinine.

When people say things like "...we are unlikely to see an immediate end to capitalism" meaning the end of capitalism is the ultimate goal, we should be very skeptical if not afraid that could really happen. You can't tax and spend your way to prosperity, feeding the leviathan and "fixing" income inequality (something that's not a real problem, by the way) will only result in mutually assured misery, not the socialist or democratic socialist utopia fools like Sanders and AOC are promising.

I think the only reason a "star was born" is because of her titty dresses. If she looked like the typical female politician, nobody would be paying attention to her.

Yeah.

And if Pavarotti couldn?t sing, he would have been just another fat Italian.

agreed, but by Democrat party standards, she's an 11.

That is EXACTLY the point I was going make-I would add female Republican politicians also.

Comparing her to other politicians isn?t like comparing Pavarotti to Domingo-it?s like comparing Pavarotti to your average American Idol contestant.
