Former front office exec anticipates Lions making unconventional draft selections.

"I wouldn't say (they will) make a pick that may surprise you, but without a doubt, this is a team that will draft specifically for what they deem to be the kind of role they specifically want (a player) to play, meaning this is a team that won't be afraid to make the unconventional pick, to make a pick that really fits them," Riddick said during a Wednesday conference call.

"A lot of no-frills types of signing, a lot of guys that are role player types of signings that really do fit what New England's protocol has been in the past," Riddick said. "You look at guys like Tavon Wilson, Rafael Bush, Darrin Walls, Johnson Bademosi, these are all very good role players that fit specific criteria within your greater 53-man roster, just like Bill (Belichick) does in New England".
