Detroit Lions - Team Notes

The Lions pick of A'Shawn Robinson is a smart one. He will slide in immediately to the rotation, either as a starter next to Haloti Ngata or fighting for the third DT spot with Stefan Charles. This is a long-term solution pick for Detroit and a good one.

Lions -- finally -- find long-term DT answer in Alabama's A'Shawn Robinson.

Lions selected Alabama DL A'Shawn Robinson with the No. 46 overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft.
Robinson (6'4/307) was a first-team All-American in 2015, turning pro after a three-year college career that witnessed 22 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a 30-game starter. Robinson just turned 21 and is still growing into his body. Although he didn't test particularly well at the Combine, Robinson has NFL-level length (34 1/2-inch arms), a pro-ready power game, and can play both strong-side end and defensive tackle. Robinson's weaknesses are a lack of explosive pass-rush movement and a tendency to play too high, the latter of which should be fixable. He profiles as an early-impact down lineman with significant room for growth and likely fills a 1-technique or 3-technique role for the Lions.
