Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Prater ranks 3rd in NFL history with 47 field goals converted from 50+ yards.
He is 47-of-62 from 50+ yards, good for a 75.8 conversion rate, 2nd-best in NFL history.

QB Matthew Stafford connects with WR Danny Amendola for a 47-yard TD.
This marks the longest TD pass the Lions have had in a Week 1 game since Stafford connected with WR Calvin Johnson for a 67-yard score vs. NYG in Week 1 of the 2014 season.
This also marks the longest TD of WR Danny Amendola's career.

QB Matthew Stafford is playing in his 142nd career game today.
He currently has 38,644 passing yds., the most any NFL player has had thru 142 games.
He passed QB Brett Favre (38,627) for the 7th-most passing yds. thru a player's 1st 11 seasons in NFL history.

95-yard touchdown drive was the team's longest touchdown drive since Nov. 27, 2014 vs. Chicago (95 yards).

CB Darius Slay's 2nd quarter pass defenses brings him to 92 total pass defenses in his career, which leads the League since 2013.

The Lions recorded 8 PDs in the first half, trailing only the 10 PDs they had in the 1st half against Green Bay on Sept. 28, 1997 for the most in franchise history.

TE T.J. Hockenson and WR Danny Amendola each have 70+ yards in their Lions
debuts.
The last time two Lions players had 70+ receiving yards in their Lions debut was on Oct. 4, 1987 (Eric Truvillion and Darrell Grymes).

LB Devon Kennard recorded 3.0 sacks in the 1st half.
He becomes the first LB in franchise history to notch 3.0 sacks in the first half of a game.
The last Lions player to log 3.0 sacks in the 1st half of a game was DE Tracy Scroggins on 11/23/97.

LB Jahlani Tavai notched his 1st career sack today.
He becomes the 5th Lions player to notch a sack in his NFL debut. He's the 1st Lions player to do so since DT Ndamukong Suh in 2010 and 1st Lions LB to do so since 1987.

The Lions have 4 sacks today, their most in a Week 1 game since totaling 4 sacks against vs. the Rams on Sept. 9, 2012.

TE T.J. Hockenson (@TheeHOCK8) has topped the 100-yard mark in his NFL debut.
He is only the 2nd player in franchise history to top 100 yards in his debut, joining WR Earl McCullouch, who had 132 yards in his debut at Dallas on Sept. 15, 1968.

TE T.J. Hockenson has set an NFL record for receiving yards in a tight end's first game with 124 yards, passing 49ers TE Monty Stickles' previous record of 123 receiving yards, which he set on Sept. 25, 1960.

QB Matthew Stafford produced his 19th career game with 300+ passing yds. & 3 TDs, tied for the 13th-most in NFL history.

This ties Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino for the 5th-most 300-yard games a QB has had through career game No. 142.

DB Tracy Walker becomes 1-of-6 safeties in Lions history to record at least 25 tackles & 2 INTs in his first 2 seasons.
DB Tracy Walker is the only Lions DB since 2014 to have at least seven tackles, two pass defenses, & one interception in a game.

In their Lions debuts, TE TJ Hockenson and WR DannyAmendola each topped 100 receiving yds.
The last time in NFLhistory that 2 teammates each topped 100 yds. in their franchise debuts was on Sept. 11, 1960, when Tony Teresa and Jack Larscheid did so for the Raiders.

LB DevonKennard leads the NFL with 3.0 sacks following Week 1.
He became the first Lions LB since Antonio London in 1995 to have a 3.0-sack game.
Since joining Detroit in 2018, Kennard has 10.0 sacks for 86.0 yards, the 4th-most sack yards by a LB in that span.

In his Lions debut, CB Rashann Melvin became the 1st CB in team history to produce at least 8 solo tackles & 3 PDs in the same game since CB Todd Lyght did so at Arizona on Dec. 8, 2002.
His 3 PDs are tied for the most in the NFL following Week 1.

Dating back to last season, Lions QB Matthew Stafford has thrown 161 consecutive passes without an interception, the longest active streak in the NFL.
This also marks the 6th time he's had a streak of 150+ pass attempts without an interception.

Matt Patricia is praising Philip Rivers. Said he notices how he thrives no matter the change in system he's played in or coaching staff he's had. Feels he just keeps getting better and better and "is a tremendous competitor." Said he's proven "game after game, year after year" that he's going to go out there and play.

Lions OC Darrell Bevell said "we can put ourselves in better situations" when asked about the play call after the timeout on a critical third down in the fourth quarter that could have put Detroit in good position to win. Said he saw man-to-man coverage and it was what he anticipated. As far as the timeout, he said he and Matt Patricia are in contact throughout the game but that Patricia is the one that calls the timeouts on the sidelines. Matthew Stafford can call timeouts from the field as well. Bevell wouldn't say whether or not he wanted the timeout called, instead saying they are "moving on to the Chargers."

Lions DC Paul Pasqualoni said he thought the secondary played "fundamentally good" throughout the game against Arizona. Then he references a game between Dallas and Arizona in 2010 where Larry Fitzgerald made plays on them down the stretch to win the game. Felt they had tight coverage on David Johnson for the touchdown but the player tripped.

Paul Pasqualoni on facing a veteran quarterback and whether you can actually fool them: "At the end of the day, a guy like Philip Rivers, a guy like Tom Brady, a guy like Aaron Rodgers, they're going to figure it out. I just think that you have to be very, very sound in what you're doing. You've got to have a good, if you're playing zones, you have to be right on top of what you're doing with the zone. If you're playing man, you've got to rely on technique and fundamentals. You've got to hope that you can keep the coverage tight long enough that you can keep the zones, the holes in the zones tight enough long enough for the rush to at least have some kind of effect on the quarterback.
It's going to be hard. You know, to say we're going to go in there and fool him all day, I don't think that happens at this level with that level of quarterback."

Who was at fault for the Lions? tie vs. the Cardinals?
It?s always easy to point blame in a loss, but with so many positives in the Lions? tie Sunday it?s hard to point the finger.
