Detroit Lions secondary continues to draw national praise.
People are already starting to take notice of the Lions? improved secondary.
An undefeated team is naturally going to draw a lot of national attention, especially when they?re about to go up against one of the best teams in the NFL. This is apparently still true for the Detroit Lions, a team that notoriously is out of the national conversation more often than not.

This week has been a banner week for coverage of the Lions? secondary. On Tuesday, we noted how SportSource Analytics had a stat that suggested no one was better at covering opponent receivers through three weeks than the Lions. Wednesday, Football Outsiders used metrics to show just how improved the Lions cornerbacks are this year as compared to last year?s crew.

Thursday, Football Outsiders was back at it again, this time using tape to show just how good the Lions? coverage is right now.

?Compared to last year?s joke of a unit, though, this new and improved pass defense is a godsend,? Football Outsiders? Derrik Klassen wrote. ?Detroit?s pass defense is now a central part of why they are competitive rather than their Achilles heel.

You should definitely check out the entire piece here, which includes a couple interesting plays in which a chip from the Lions? defensive front helped a ton in pass coverage.

The Detroit Lions Podcast

Detroit Lions Podcast Dodges Philly D-cells.
First things first, we discuss the Lions victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly. The Lions gave us plenty of opportunities to fret over the game, but in the end they carried victory home. It wasn?t pretty, but the Lions have taken on a personality that makes other teams uncomfortable. They make games hard for other teams, and for Lions fans, that has to be a welcome change.

From there the Detroit Lions Podcast takes a number of listener calls and questions. We spend some time discussing possible pickups like Jalen Ramsey, the Lions strengths, and much more. Great catch of questions this week, and we?ll follow up with a live ?Quick Takes? episode with Jeff Risdon to discuss the Lions upcoming game and to take your questions live.

We take a moment to discuss Matthew Stafford?s accuracy, we do an early look at the injury report, and we take a deep dive into the defense. Then we marvel about how unexpected the Lions record is thus far in 2019.

Looking Ahead To The Kansas City Chiefs.
Next the Detroit Lions Podcast goes into our predictions for the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and specific keys to the game for the Lions. There are three keys, and if the Lions take care of those things they will walk away with a win against one of the best teams in the NFL today.

Finally, we take you ?Around The Division? to look at our competition and to ascertain where we might stand after the third week of football. There are some key matchups to watch this week that just might predict outcomes for the year.

Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming Detroit Lions Podcast! Pride Of Detroit Lions Blog Podcast: Lions-Chiefs preview podcast: How to stop Patrick Mahomes. 40 minutes.
We try to get the secret to stopping slowing Patrick Mahomes from the KC perspective.

In order to defeat your enemy, you must learn everything about them. Even when it looks like everything is stacked against you, knowledge is power and even the slightest bit of info could be the edge you need to pull off, say, a seven-point upset at home to move to 3-0-1. Okay, I got a little specific there.

In an effort to get that competitive edge, First Byte this week features one of our friends from Kansas City Chiefs blog Arrowhead Pride to give us all of their secrets and voodoo magic surrounding Patrick Mahomes and that spine-tingling offense.

Ron Kopp is our guest this week, as we discuss the Chiefs? surprisingly eventful offseason, their extremely vulnerable defense, and whether the Detroit Lions could keep up with the Chiefs in a shootout.

As always, we make sure our First Byte podcast is nice and short, so you can listen to the entire thing on a commute or during a workout or while waiting in the doctor?s office. It is illegal to listen to it in any other setting, though. Your phone is tracking your location, so we?ll know if you?re in violation of Code 45725-C.

This week on First Byte:
The Chiefs overhauled their defense, but is it any better? What are the cornerstones? Who are the key leaders with Eric Berry gone?

How is it possible that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense is better this year? PLEASE SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS.

The Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher probably won?t play. Can the Lions take advantage?

Can the AFC Championship Game provide any clarity on how a Patriots-style defense can stop Patrick Mahomes?

IT?S KERRYON JOHNSON BREAKOUT WEEK, RIGHT? IT HAS TO BE.

The gang makes their predictions, and one even kinda, sorta predicts a Lions win.
