Tate still considers Stafford the best QB he?s played with.
If only the organization could successfully build around a franchise QB.
It?s always nice to remember some of the fun times we had watching the YAC king in Honolulu Blue, but this time he?ll be on the other sideline in a different shade of blue. Kyle Meinke at mlive.com wrote about Golden Tate?s return to Ford Field in an opposing uniform. Interesting note from Meinke in a tweet that adds a bit to what is in his article regarding the circumstances of the trade last season:
Just to be clear, the Lions did make an offer, and I've heard it was a very, very good one. But Tate turned it down. So the Lions traded him for a third-round pick instead.
Golden Tate was negotiating a new deal with the #Lions. Wanted to finish career there. Turned down an offer. Next day he was traded.
On Sunday... he returns. #Giants

So it does seem like the team really wanted to bring Tate back on a new contract and made a bona fide effort. Over at The Lions Wire, Jeff Risdon compared and contrasted the organization?s public handling of Tate?s trade to the Giants with the recent trade of Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks. Our own fearless leader Jeremy Reisman noticed the difference as well, as both and he and Risdon noticed the deep warmth and emotion in Tate?s sendoff.

Dave Birkett had an extended conversation with Tate about the time he spent in Detroit catching passes from Matthew Stafford. That period covered a big chunk of the years it took for Matthew Stafford to become the fastest quarterback to 40,000 career passing yards. Mike Freeman from Bleacher Report thinks that achievement is remarkable given the perennially weak teams the organization has put around him. In comments to Birkett, it seems like Golden Tate would agree:
Golden Tate on Matthew Stafford: "I don?t want to sell anyone out, but I just think if you throw Stafford into New Orleans right now or Green Bay right now, or back when they had all those incredible players, I think this guy has a couple rings".

Detroit Lions preview: Are the Giants as dysfunctional as they look?
We preview the Lions? Week 8 opponent with our frenemies from Big Blue View.
POD

From the outside, it looks like the New York Giants may be one of the more dysfunctional organizations in the NFL. General manager Dave Gettleman has been turned into a punchline after saying he won?t trade Odell Beckham Jr., then promptly trading Odell Beckham Jr. Then he promptly went and made the shock of the draft, taking Duke quarterback Daniel Jones much to the surprise of everyone.

The results have been predictable. The Giants are 2-5, bereft of talent and already out of the national spotlight before November.

But is it all really as bad as it looks? Detroit Lions fans are well aware that the national perception can often be wrong or misleading. So this week, we brought in Chris Pflum?writer for Big Blue View?to set the record straight. Is the future that dark in New York? Is there anything or anyone to be worried about this week? What happened to the Danny Dimes of three weeks ago?

All that and more on this week?s First Byte preview podcast!

This week on First Byte:
Is it truly a full rebuild for the Giants or could they become contenders quick?

On a scale of 1 to Matt Millen: How much do Giants fans hate Dave Gettleman?

Strengths and weaknesses of Daniel Jones.

Injury update: How is Sterling Shepard progressing? Is Saquon Barkley the same guy after his ankle injury?

We discuss keys to the game: How to stop TE Evan Engram? Can Giants make Matthew Stafford uncomfortable? Will the Lions ever be able to run the ball again?

PREDICTIONS!
