Jim Bob Cooter said Dwayne Washington is building confidence with the coaching staff and the other offensive players. Said they talk about ball security a lot. Hasn't been an issue for Washington.

Teryl Austin said his defense needs to play better but doesn't necessarily think they have to play faster. Said it starts with him making sure the play calls are good.

Teryl Austin: "We have to make sure the awful football is out of us." Said the Lions have had issues with big plays.

Teryl Austin wants no part of answering how he feels about pass interference calls. Said if he said how he felt, he might get fined. Lions had a 66-yard PI call last week.

Spoke with a couple Lions players with NY/NJ ties today. They said they didn't believe they had any family or friends affected by the Hoboken train crash, but they were still checking on all of their people.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said calling Golden Tate a No. 2 WR is "not accurate." Said he doesn't define his receivers.

Jim Caldwell was asked how much consideration he's given to placing DeAndre Levy or Ezekiel Ansah on injured reserve. Caldwell: "Check the report." Unfortunately, the report doesn't tell us that.

DeAndre Levy and Ezekiel Ansah only Lions not practicing. Antwione Williams, Eric Ebron and Wallace Gilberry all returned.

John Fox said Jay Cutler tossed it around a bit yesterday. Didn't know what his status would be for Sunday against the Lions.
John Fox said Jay Cutler could take snaps now but throwing balls into tight spaces is another story. If they see it, he could play.

Marvin Jones a surprise add to the Lions injury report, limited with a hamstring injury.

ALL SIGNS POINT TO LIONS OVER BEARS.
Per ESPN Stats & Info, Detroit has won three of its last four road games and six straight games against Chicago. Meanwhile, the Bears have lost seven of their last eight games and 11 of 12 at home.

Top Lions WR Marvin Jones suffers hamstring injury, limited in practice.
Mlive

Marvin Jones (hamstring) was added to the Lions' Thursday injury report, getting in a limited session with a hamstring issue.
Jones must have tweaked something in Thursday's practice. There's currently no reason to panic, but Jones' Friday status will be key. Jones has a history of (minor) hamstring issues. Sit tight, but at least start contemplating a back-up plan.
