Fourth-quarter excitement obscures Lions' offensive inefficiencies.

While Detroit?s total of 41 points in the last three minutes of games is the best in the NFL, the Lions have put up more than 24 points in a game just twice since Week 5.
They haven?t had more than 350 yards of offense since Week 3 against Green Bay.

The Lions have struggled the most in the third quarters of games, where they have scored only 41 points and are averaging 67 yards of offense.
First quarters haven't been much better, with an average of 71.4 yards.
Compared those numbers to the second (101.6) and fourth (82.7) quarters.

The Lions, according to Football Outsiders, have gone three-and-out on 26.2 percent of their drives this season, ranked No. 28 in the NFL.
Only Miami, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles are worse.

Rafael Bush, Tyrunn Walker and Theo Riddick are captains for the Lions this week. Both Bush and Walker played for the Saints in the past.

Tahir Whitehead, Ezekiel Ansah and DeAndre Levy officially questionable for Sunday against New Orleans. Good news for the Lions is a full practice for Ansah on Friday.

MAN AND METRIC AGREE: SAINTS OVER LIONS.
Both of our NFL Nation reporters like New Orleans to score often and win over Detroit. ESPN's Football Power Index also gives the Saints a significant advantage, pegging them as 3-1 favorites.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT ANQUAN BOLDIN.
For all of the Hall of Fame discussion about the NFL's most senior vets, Boldin tends to get lost in the shuffle. But folks around the league rave about his candidacy for Canton.

NOTEBOOK: Lions looking for more sacks.

Detroit?s defense has the third-fewest quarterback pressures (105) in the NFL this year, according to Pro Football Focus statistics.
Only Indianapolis (74) and Dallas (95) have fewer. Tennessee leads the league with 179.
The Lions also have the third-fewest quarterback hits (27).
Jacksonville (22) and Green Bay (24) are the only defenses with fewer.
